Abstract: An embodiment includes a sample receiving region, a first diagnostic element that includes one or more colorimetric analysis regions, and a second diagnostic element that includes one or more lateral flow assay analysis regions. The embodiment also includes a first flow path that allows a portion of a liquid deposited at the sample receiving region to flow to the first diagnostic element. The embodiment also includes a second flow path that allows a portion of the liquid deposited at the sample receiving region to flow to the second diagnostic element.

Abstract: An assembly for interfacing with a microfluidic chip 238 having at least one microscopic channel with at least one embedded electrode configured to receive a liquid sample for analysis and at least one chip contact coupled to the electrode, the assembly comprising a chip carrier 240, an electronics module 110, an optical module 118 and a mechanical module. The chip carrier includes a base and a cover which define a cavity 236 for receiving the chip, and at least one chip carrier contact 234 to engage with the chip contact. The electronics module comprises at least one electronic module contact 248 which engage with the chip carrier contacts and a signal generator which applies at least one electrokinetic signal to the embedded electrode(s) of the chip via the electronic module contacts. The optical module includes an excitation radiation source and an emission radiation detector. The mechanical module is controlled by the electronics module and comprises a chip-carrier receiving structure, relatable with respect to the optical module for focus and at least one degree of translational freedom. The embedded electrodes are ideally dielectrophoresis electrodes. A method of carrying out a test on a microfluidic chip employing impedance changes is also disclosed.

Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer program product for a microfluidic channel having a cover opposite its bottom and having electrodes with patterned two-dimensional conducting materials, such as graphene sheets integrated into the top of its bottom. Using the two- dimensional conducting materials, once a fluid sample is applied into the channel, highly localized modulated electric field distributions are generated inside the channel and the fluid sample. This generated field causes the inducing of dielectrophoretic (DEP) forces. These DEP forces are the same or greater than DEP forces that would result using metallic electrodes because of the sharp edges enabled by the two-dimension geometry of the two- dimensional conducting materials. Because of the induced forces,micro/nano-particles in the fluid sample are separated into particles that respond to a negative DEP force and particles that respond to a positive DEP. Microfluidic chips with microfluidic channels can be made using standard semiconductor manufacturing technology.
