    Abstract: 1,015,230. Feeding documents to machines. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 11, 1964 [Aug. 16, 1963], No. 32646/64. Heading B6B. A document feeding apparatus comprises a driven part elastically coupled to a document holding part, so that when the latter is arrested the driven part can carry on until its kinetic energy is absorbed by the coupling. As shown, the portion 110, driven by the motor 30 via a non-reversible clutch 32 and a belt 40, is connected to a document gripper 10 by bands 54, 56 attached to the circumference of spring- loaded rotatable discs 122, 190 attached to the portion 110. For feeding in the document the motor drive is interrupted and stops 54, 64 arrest the gripper which is opened by cam 74. The kinetic energy of the driving system is absorbed by the advance of 110 and the rotation of the spring-biased discs. Backward motion of the latter is prevented by the clutch 52. For onward feeding the motor is restarted and the stops 54, 64 depressed electromagnetically. During the forward motion the gripper is attracted towards the member 110 by the spring bias. The document is arrested in a similar manner at the document reading station. Provision here is made for reading the document in two successive halves. With the document arrested by stops 85, 86 the first half is read and the kinetic energy stored as potential energy in the biasing springs for discs 122, 190. This energy is then, used on depression of stops 85, 86, to advance the gripper, without using the motor 30, to the second set of stops, where the second half of the document is read. The document is then driven round beneath of the apparatus where a cam opens the gripper to deposit the document in tray 16.

    Abstract: A portable carrier for a semiconductor wafer is detachably connected to an air slide so that the wafer can be propelled from the carrier to the air slide and vice versa by air from the air slide. The carrier has a chamber with an air slide base on which the wafer is supported by air from the air slide when the wafer is to be propelled into or out of the chamber. The carrier has a single wafer port, which is sealed except when the carrier is connected to the air slide, through which the wafer enters or exits when propelled by air from the air slide. When the carrier chamber is sealed, the wafer is retained in position within the chamber by retaining means, which are rendered ineffective when the wafer is to be propelled into or out of the chamber.

    Abstract: A collapsible ink bag supplies ink at constant pressure through a manifold containing an air bubble trap, capable of venting, which manifold is connected in common to plural lines to a multiple orifice - multiple transducer fluid wave printing head of a recorder. Constant static pressure in the ink supply is provided to avoid inadvertent ejection of ink through orifices of the nozzles. The manifold contains an air bubble and the manifold inlet line has a sufficiently low resistance to flow. Its source of ink supply is free to expand and contract, and the hydraulic resistance to fluid flow in the lines to the head is sufficiently high to eliminate cross talk of waves between separate orifices. Alternatively, a built in reservoir in the head has a single low resistance connection to the source of ink supply and high resistance lines connect it to the orifices.
