    Abstract: A system is provided for controlling the internal air-quality of a vehicle. If the speed of the vehicle is not above a predetermined low-speed threshold, internal air-quality from an internal air-quality sensor 302 is compared with external air-quality from an external air-quality sensor 304. If internal air-quality is better than external air-quality, a ventilation control mechanism 316 is signaled to utilize a recirculating-air mode in which the ventilation control mechanism 316 either stays in an already initiated recirculation-air mode or switches to the recirculating-air mode. If internal air-quality is worse than external air-quality, the ventilation control mechanism 316 is signaled to utilize a fresh-air mode in which the ventilation control mechanism either stays in an already initiated fresh-air mode or switches to the fresh-air mode. External air quality information may be shared among users by uploading the external air quality information to a cloud-based air quality aggregation and assessment mechanism 320 to generate a transient air-quality map having near-future external air quality information which may be retrieved, eg at higher speeds, based on vehicle speed and direction.

    Abstract: A mechanism is provided for controlling the internal air-quality of a vehicle. Responsive to determining that a speed of a vehicle fails to be above the predetermined low-speed threshold, a determination is made as to whether an internal air-quality from an internal air-quality sensor is better than the external air-quality from an external air-quality sensor. Responsive to the internal air-quality being better than the external air-quality, a ventilation control mechanism is signaled to utilize a recirculating-air mode, wherein the ventilation control mechanism either stays in an already initiated recirculation-air mode or switches to the recirculating-air mode. In-vehicle sensor data of a vehicle are acquired and the usage status of the vehicle is determined based on the acquired in-vehicle sensor data. Based on the acquired in-vehicle sensor data and the determined usage status, a changing trend of the in-vehicle air-quality is determined and responsive to the determined changing trend of the in-vehicle air-quality, a control system of the vehicle is signaled to control the usage status of the vehicle based on a control policy.
