    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bear fragility, a weak impact property, etc., and to prevent strain due to compression force by providing a slider suspension assembly having a laminated load beam attaching a reinforcement member. SOLUTION: This magnetic disk data storage system contains the slider suspension assembly used for a slider 30 of a pico-size and a nano-size for a data disk file. This assembly contains the laminated load beam 20 provided with plural layers and applied so as to attach the slider 30 to one end of a side opposite to a file actuator support part. This laminated load beam 20 is provided with at least a conductor, and is provided with an electric lead wire for connecting to the slider 30. The reinforcement member 13 reinforcing the assembly is attached to the laminated load beam 20. This reinforcement member 13 is formed to a required shape by a stamping process.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for soldering a suspension and a lead of a converter of a miniaturized disk drive. SOLUTION: The suspension member 32 is provided with the integrated electrically conductive lead 120 extending to the rear tail part along the longitudinal direction. This lead 120 is extended beyond the tail part and electrically connected with an acceptor pad member. The distant end 135 of the lead is provided with a recessed area at the edge of a terminal for guiding the flow of the fluid solder to the joint part. This recessed area is formed into e.g. a chamfer 136, preferably to be semicircular. The tail pad is provided with a pair of tab members 134 accepted by an opening part of the acceptor pad member, for accurately aligning the lead.

    Abstract: A laminated suspension used in a data recording disk file is described which supports a negative pressure slider (66) in a manner which prevents the read/write transducer (71) on the slider from contacting the disk surface and which eliminates the effect of stiction. The laminated suspension is a flat, flexible sheet (10) of material bonded on both sides to patterned metal layers (12, 14). The suspension comprises an arm portion for attachment to the actuator support arm (66), slider portion to which the slider is attached, and a link portion interconnecting the arm and slider portions. The first metal layer is preferably stainless steel and the second metal layer is preferably copper. The arm and link portions of the stainless steel layer are spaced apart to form a hinge (43) flexible material. The portion of the copper in the hinge region is prestressed or bent so that the link portion of the laminated suspension is biased toward the disk surface. A second similar hinge region (47) is located between the link and slider portions of the laminated suspension and the copper in that hinge region is similarly bent so that only one edge of the slider contacts the disk surface when the disk is not rotating. When the disk file is turned on and the disk is at sufficient speed, the static pressure differential between opposite sides of the suspension and the slider overcome the spring forces in the two hinge regions and pull the slider into its air-bearing operational relationship with the disk surface.

    Abstract: An integrated suspension for a slider in a magnetic storage system has a simplified structure that is relatively easy to manufacture. The novel integrated suspension may be assembled from separate pieces, including a load beam, a flexure and a mounting plate. The load beam provides rigid structural support of the flexure. The flexure includes a flexible member and leads integrally formed thereon. A section of the flexible member is fixedly attached to the load member, and another section having the slider mounted thereon presses against a pivot projection in the load beam for gimbal motions. An interlocking structure is provided to limit the extent of gimbal motions of the flexible member, comprising a tab extending from the flexible member into an aperture in the load beam. Alternatively, a tang is formed in the flexible member which is used to form a clip which serves to limit gimbal motions as it interacts with the load beam.

    Abstract: A carriage assembly useful with a head accessing mechanism in a magnetic disk storage system includes a base having parallel guide rails disposed in a triangular type configuration. The rails cooperate with a carriage body having a first set of bearings for riding on the top surface of the guide rails, and additional angled bearings that engage corresponding angled portions of the guide rails inboard of the periphery of the base. At least one of the angled bearings is spring loaded. The configuration is symmetrical about a vertical plane that is coincident with the direction of the axis along which the accessing mechanism travels.
