Abstract:
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape storage device having an optimum additional writing method. SOLUTION: The tape storage device includes: a buffer storing data about read and additional writing; a tape in which the data stored in the buffer is recorded; a reading/writing head which reads data from the tape to the buffer and writes data from the buffer to the tape; and a control means for reading data from a designated position of the tape in response to the read command and storing the data into the buffer, and in response to the additional writing command, writing the data stored in the buffer from a data write additional data terminal position of the tape. A nonvolatile memory storing data stored in the buffer by the write command is provided, data stored temporarily in the nonvolatile memory is moved by the prescribed judgement criterion to a tape write position where the data is to be written so that movement distance which the tape travels for the head becomes the minimum, and thus write is executed. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape recorder, whose writing performance is improved by unnecessitating a request of synchronization, and writing control of this tape recorder and its writing control method. SOLUTION: The tape recorder which sequentially records a plurality of files when a write instruction for the plurality of files is received from an external host, is equipped with: a buffer for temporarily storing the plurality of files; the tape for recording the plurality of files; a write means for writing the plurality of files which are stored in the buffer, into the tape; a writing control means for controlling the sequential write of each of the plurality of files which are stored in the buffer. into the tape. When an instruction for specifying separating positions of the plurality of files to be sequentially written (separating positions specifying command) is received from the external host, the specified separating positions are stored by the writing control means. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a write and read method for not performing a backhitch operation for avoiding the violation of a 4m rule while it is determined to write a sequential data set within 4m in a tape drive of LTO or the like. SOLUTION: The write and read control method for recording at least one data set in 4m in the length direction of a tape medium 550 comprises: a step of successively storing a plurality of blocks 510 of various sizes sent from a host in a buffer 500 divided by the segment 520 of a fixed size; a step of writing the contents of the segment to the tape medium as a data set when the segment 520 is prepared by at least one block 510 and writing a Null data set to the tape medium within 4m when the next segment 520 is not prepared while the tape medium moves for 4m; and a step of reading the data set to the segment of the buffer 500. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time required for a moving operation of a tape medium in writing data to a tape medium. SOLUTION: In a controller 16 of a tape drive, when a command processor 41 receives a command for moving to the end of data (EOD) or the like, an operation signal output unit 45 suspends the moving of a tape and a cartridge memory (CM) input/output unit 44 stores therein a state of the tape in which the moving has been omitted. Then, when the command processor 41 receives a command for writing data in this state, the CM input/output unit 44 writes the data to a cartridge memory. Subsequently, for example, when a head passes a proper position at which the data should be actually written to the tape, the CM input/output unit 44 reads the data from the cartridge memory, and a channel input/output unit 43 writes the data to the tape at the proper position. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cartridge for cleaning, using new magnetic tape travel control, a drive device, an adjusting method for a magnetic head, and a magnetic recording system which enable a user to adjust the magnetic head while performing cleaning operation on the site and further enable the user to detect and predict a fault of the magnetic head by performing the cleaning operation. SOLUTION: The adjusting method for the magnetic head includes a step for setting the cartridge for cleaning in the drive device, a step for judging that the cartridge for cleaning is loaded by checking a cleaning bit in a nonvolatile memory, a step for performing adjusting operation after the cleaning operation when judging that the cleaning cartridge is loaded, and a step for reading a pattern signal out of a specified area of a magnetic tape held in the cleaning cartridge. Abstract:
Provided is a tape storage device having an optimal write method even when an overwrite operation is introduced during a combined read/write operation. When the overwrite position of data on a tape is upstream of the end position of write-once data on the tape, the overwrite data position is updated as the end position of the write-once data; and when the overwrite position of the data on the tape is downstream of the end position of the write-once data on the tape, the overwrite data position is updated as the end position of the write-once data in a non-volatile memory (EOD in memory). This allows the overall performance of the combined operation to be improved in the tape storage device even when an overwrite operation is introduced in a command string in which reading and once-writing from a higher-level device are combined together.
