Abstract: To select suitable materials for highly corrosion resistant coating, and to form magnetic head coating in thin films of suitable thickness, in order to improve corrosion resistance of magnetic heads in HDDs and secure reliability of HDDs. At least parts of surfaces of write element or read element of the surface of the magnetic head are coated with low surface energy materials. Therefore, these coated surfaces do not easily attract water due to their humidity resistance, wetting resistance and hydrophobicity, resulting in improvement of corrosion resistance of these coated surfaces. As particular evaluation, surface energy values of water and low surface energy materials are determined. Then, as low surface energy materials FCOC (fluorocarbon compounds), and especially materials containing perfluoroalkylpolyoxyethyleneethanol are selected. Particular surface energy values of selected materials are also determined. Further, in forming thin films of low surface energy materials on magnetic heads, their preferable thickness is selected to be 5 - 100 Ñ, 10 - 20 Ñ being more preferable.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the abnormality of the floating amount of a magnetic head by simple method, a data write method using the detection method and an HDD device for realizing the methods. SOLUTION: When a write operation is started, the gain of servo signals is decided on the basis of the head part (preamble) of the servo signals reproduced by an AGC 31, and the servo signals of a following part are amplified. Then, the gain of the AGC 31 held in the register of a channel control part 36 is compared with a reference value to detect abnormality of the floating amount of the magnetic head 12.

In the operating information recording and reproducing device, a deposit stuck to the head which reads and writes data in and from a rotating disk recording medium is removed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a head which repels water and which has improved corrosion resistance by coating at least a part of the surface of a writing element or a reading element of the head surface with a substance having low surface energy. SOLUTION: A coating as a substitute for the substrate surface is formed so as to decrease the surface energy of the substrate surface, and the coating has moisture resistance and resistance against wetting. As for the material suitable for the thin film, FCOC(fluorinated carbon compds.) are used. As for an example of RCOC, a compd. containing perfluoroalkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol is selected. The FCOC is preferable because it can be formed into a thin film as a solid and a method for its formation by dipping and drawing up or by plasma CVD can be carried out.

Then the bumps 12c are not formed in a region facing to the minimum fly height region of the head slider to be bump-free zone 12b.
