Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contribute to the generation of correct read data by increasing the probability of error corrections. SOLUTION: Reading about the same sector is performed multiple times, the majority is taken in the same address (Address), and the most frequent value is considered to be a genuine data value. For example, in an address 00, '00' is treated as a genuine data value.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the abnormality of the floating amount of a magnetic head by simple method, a data write method using the detection method and an HDD device for realizing the methods. SOLUTION: When a write operation is started, the gain of servo signals is decided on the basis of the head part (preamble) of the servo signals reproduced by an AGC 31, and the servo signals of a following part are amplified. Then, the gain of the AGC 31 held in the register of a channel control part 36 is compared with a reference value to detect abnormality of the floating amount of the magnetic head 12.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the seek time at head switching time and to improve the performance of data writing and reading operation by providing a disk device which has plural heads with a head conversion correction table. SOLUTION: The tilt quantities of the respective heads 0-3 are measured in advance, and their values are generated as a head conversion table for tilt correction as shown in the figure and stored in the device, and when the heads are switched, a target track which is closest to the current position of a head to be used next is regarded as the target track. This head conversion correction table contains relative shift track quantities (tilt quantity) among the heads 0-3 as data. For example, the table contains data indicating that the shift quantity from the head 1 to the head 2 is +1 track as shown in the figure. Consequently, when each head is switched, this head conversion correction table is referred to and the target track is so set that a seek quantity is reduced.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a preventing method for off-track-write of a head by which overkill caused by needless write-inhibition can be reduced, a storage device utilizing it, and a position predicting method using it and a device. SOLUTION: Pn and Vn are obtained from a read out value of a servo pattern of the nth, while the following prospected PESn+1 is obtained based on obtained Pn, Vn, and Un obtained from an output of a servo controller, [prospected PESn+1=Pn+Vn+kUn (where, Pn: PES(position error signal) in a servo pattern (n), Vn: speed (Vn=Pn-P(n-1)) in a servo pattern (n), Un: an output of a servo controller in a servo pattern (n) k: constant)], when each absolute value of obtained Pn, Vn, prospected PESn+1 satisfies any condition of the following conditions (1) to (3), (1)|Pn|>C1, (2)|Vn|>C2 (3)|Predicated PESn+1|>C3 (where, C1, C2, C3: constant), and writing data in a track between the servo pattern of nth by a head and a servo pattern of (n+1)th is inhibited.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an erroneous correcting operation and to suppress the deterioration of performance by detecting a flaw in one of a pair of burst patterns or more recorded in each of plural tracks and positioning a head in a prescribed track in accordance with a position error signal generated by using the other burst pattern. SOLUTION: The disk device 30 is wholly controlled by an MPU 42 together with a hard disk controller HDC 40 in accordance with a control program. Plural tracks, each comprising a data area for recording data and a servo area in which a pair of burst patterns or more are recorded in advance, are disposed in a pattern of concentric circles in the surface of a disk 31. When a read/write error due to a flaw in one burst pattern read out by a magnetic head 33 is formed, this burst pattern is not used but the other one is used to generate a positioning error signal by the MPU 42. The magnetic head 33 is positioned into the center of a prescribed track by the MPU 42 in accordance with this positioning error signal. Consequently, the right correcting operation can thus be performed.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard disk drive that copes with various causes to occurrence of runaway of a magnetic head. SOLUTION: The hard disk drive is provided with a magnetic disk 2 on which servo information is stored, the magnetic head 4 that seeks on the magnetic disk 2 and reads or writes data while staying at a prescribed position, a voice coil motor 6 that moves the magnetic head 4 onto a prescribed position of the magnetic disk 2, and a position control means that supplies a drive current to the voice coil motor 6 on the basis of the servo information read by the magnetic head 4. The position control means is provided with a CPU 12 that outputs a speed control variable on the basis of the servo information, a DAC (digital/analog converter) 7, a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) driver 8, and a controller 10 that limits a drive speed of the voice coil motor 6 when a deviation is caused in an output timing of the speed control variable. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the dummy writing method of a magnetic head capable of furthermore effectively executing the dummy write for recovering the write instability of the magnetic head. SOLUTION: In the dummy writing method for recovering the write instability of the magnetic head 3, this dummy write is operated in such a manner that the magnetic head 3 is thermally excited and the write-in operation is executed in this state by the magnetic head. Thus, the write instability is recovered furthermore surely than the operation recovering the write instability made by the independent dummy writing method. As for the method to thermally excite the magnetic head 3, a magnetic disk is rubbed with the magnetic head 3, or both of them are heated from the outside.
