    Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for processing two analog composite vide o signals to be displayed to a human observer. The system includes at least a first an d a second video source for generating first and second analog composite video signals respec tively, and a selector coupled to the first and second video sources. The selector is operative to supply either the first or second analog composite video signal to one input of a video processor an d independently and simultaneously supply either the first or second analog composite video signal to a second input of the video processor. The video processor is operative under contro l of a CPU to generate an output analog composite video signal comprised of a portion of t he analog composite video signal supplied to the video processor's first input and a portion of the analog composite video signal supplied to the video processor's second input.

    Abstract: Y0984-097 MULTIPLE COILS FOR REDUCTION OF STRAY MAGNETIC FIELDS IN DISK FILE ACTUATORS A linear disk actuator is disclosed incorporating a magnetic circuit for reducing stray magnetic fields in the region of the disks and recording heads of a magnetic recording disk system. The moving part of the actuator is provided with a plurality of coils mounted thereon, at least two of which are energized simultaneously and in magnetically opposing relationship to reduce the amplitude of the stray magnetic fields. Movement of the actuator is achieved by both energized coils interacting with a set of alternating poles positioned on the stationary part of the actuator.

    Abstract: A magnetostrictive wire (10) is provided at one end thereof with a pulse sensor (161) having an appropriate set (Barker sequence) of coils connected in series which are adapted to pick up an encoded train of magnetoacoustic signals. A position signaling electromagnetic drive head (141) is moved along the wire (10) to any desired position. The head (141) is pulsed to produce the encoded sequence of acoustic pulses in the wire (10). When those pulses are received by the sensor (161), a large pulse is produced at one time position of the waves as they pass through its sequence of coils. This large signal is used in conjunction with a timer (26-19) to provide position measurement. A second pulse sensor (162) makes it possible for a microprocessor (210) to provide self-calibration against thermal drifts in accuracy as well as immediate warning of invalid readings.

    Abstract: The invention consists of a set top interface box(fig 1,30) to allow a number of data sources (including video) to be connected to a television receiver. The user can select between sources using a handset(20) and includes picture in picture display facilities. The invention comprises an analogue multiplexer 31 to allow switching between the various sources 34,35,42,44,40 the output of which is connected to a video processor 39. The video processor 39 is connected to amongst others an audio control 46, a CPU 48, an infrared I/O device 50 and a modem 52. The set top unit (30) can also include facilities for decoding encrypted video signals(e.g. for pay per view) and decompressing video 38. In use the user would be presented with a graphical representation of their display options(fig 18) and could point and select(135) to determine which sources would go to which destinations(VCR, full screen, picture in picture).

    Abstract: Disclosed is a video processor for processing first and second analog composite video signals and producing an output analog video signal. The video processor includes a video decoder and scaler for converting the second analog composite video signal to a reduced digital video signal. The video processor also includes a video encoder for converting the reduced digital video to a third analog composite video signal. Synchronization circuits are included for producing synchronization information for synchronizing the third analog composite video signal with the first analog composite video signal. The video processor further includes a composite video multiplexer for combining the first analog composite video signal with the third analog composite signal to produce the output analog composite video signal which is comprised of a portion of the first analog video signal and a portion of the third analog video signal.
