    Abstract: Each of a plurality of packets in a particular flow is classified into one of a plurality of quality of service (QoS) classes based on information about each packet. Each packet is then adaptively processed based on the QoS class for each packet. The classification may be performed based on media information included in a session description protocol (SDP) messaging. The classification may also be performed based on a real-time transmit protocol (RTP) payload, an RTP header, a transmission control protocol (TCP) header, a user datagram protocol (UDP) header, and an Internet protocol (IP) header. The packets may be transmitted using multiple system architecture evolution (SAE) radio bearers each of which is used to deliver differentiated QoS requirements. The packets may be mapped to eigen-modes based on the QoS class of each packet such that a packet requiring a higher level of QoS is mapped to a stronger eigen-mode. Packets may be segmented into a plurality of segments where each segment is classified into one of the QoS classes based on information about each segment.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing path-based traffic stream admission control in a wireless mesh network having distributed and/or centralized admission control architecture is disclosed. When the wireless mesh utilizes distributed admission control architecture, a source mesh point transmits a request for traffic stream admission requiring certain resources/quality of service. The request propagates through the wireless mesh network until the destination mesh point is reached and an admitted path is determined. If an intermediate mesh point is unable to meet the requested resources/services for the traffic stream, the source mesh point is notified. When the wireless mesh network utilizes centralized admission control architecture, a source mesh point requests a route to the destination mesh point from a central controller. The central controller maintains a status of mesh points in the wireless mesh network, and selects a best route to handle the traffic stream to satisfy the requested resources.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for confirming the delivery of a data packet in a mesh network by sending an acknowledgement (ACK) to an ingress mesh point (IMP). A mesh network comprises a plurality of mesh points that are wirelessly linked together. A data packet sent by a station (STA) is received by an IMP. A MAC frame is generated for transmission of the data packet and the frame is forwarded to an egress mesh point (EMP) in order to provide a service by the mesh network. The MAC frame includes a field comprising an IMP address and an EMP address. When the EMP, (or optionally an intermediate mesh point), receives a data packet successfully, the EMP or the intermediate mesh point sends an ACK to the IMP or preceding mesh point.
