Abstract:
Anhydrous and low VOC hydroalcoholic hair spray compositions including 80 % or less VOC components, and a hair fixative polymer, and, optionally, water, ethanol and/or a propellant, contains gum rosin as a performance enhancing additive in an amount up to about 1 % by weight of the composition. The presence of gum rosin improves use performance characteristics particularly reduced tack period, decreased drying time, and increased stiffness.
Abstract:
An 80 % VOC, single phase aerosol hair spray composition based on greater than 15 % hydrocarbons as propellant is described. The composition includes a predetermined small amount of dimethyl ether as cosolvent to assure solubilization of the hair fixative resin, alcohol, water and hydrocarbon components of the composition within a single phase.
Abstract:
What is described herein is a high water content hair spray composition which forms uniform, fine spray patterns having rapid drying characteristics, and which provides excellent curl retention, and reduced curl droop properties. These results are achieved herein by incorporation a surface active agent or agents into the hair spray composition which agent or agents substantially decreases the surface or interfacial tension of the hydroalcoholic phase of the composition during use. The decreased surface tension of the water-based composition along the length of the hair shaft enhances its spreading tendencies so that substantially no droplets can form upon application of the composition to the hair. The surface active agent preferably is a surface active lactam; and, most preferably, an N-alkyl pyrrolidone, where the alkyl group is a C4-C22, branched or linear, alkyl group.
Abstract:
A clear hair spray composition exhibiting low drying times and low tack during use consisting essentially of, by weight of the composition: a) 0-10 % of a fixative resin that is a linear homopolymer or random copolymer including a monomer selected from the group consisting of a vinyl monomer and an acrylate monomer, b) 0.01-10 % of a hydrolyzed crosslinked maleic anhydride-C1-C5 alkyl vinyl ether copolymer, c) 10-99.99 % water, and d) 0-80 % alcohol.
Abstract:
A hair care composition comprising: (a) about 3-8 % of a water soluble or dispersible alkylated polyvinylpyrrolidone copolymer powder comprising: (i) about 90-95 % polyvinylpyrrolidone having a K-value of 30-90, and (ii) 5-10 % of an alkylene having 4 carbon atoms; (b) about 50-95 % water; and (c) about 0-60 % alcohol.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to hair fixatives: (1) a terpolymer hair fixative comprising vinyl caprolactam, vinyl pyrrolidone and methacryloamidopropyl trimethylammonium chloride; or (2) vinyl caprolactam, vinyl pyrrolidone, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and acrylic acid; (3) vinyl caprolactam, vinyl pyrrolidone and vinyl acetate; and (4) a process of making a monomer mixture of maleic anhydride, vinyl acetate and isobornyl acrylate or methacrylate.
Abstract:
A hair spray fixative resin comprises a vinyl acetate/alkyl maleate half ester/N-substituted acrylamide terpolymer in a molar ratio of about 1.0 to 0.6-0.8 to 0.08-0.12, which is preferably produced by a suspension or solution polymerization process. Utilizing N-substituted acrylamides in place of isoborneol methacrylates in the terpolymer provides superior holding power over conventional hair fixative resins, at lower cost.
