Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently screening an agent for suppressing apocrine smell, and to provide a method for objectively, accurately and readily evaluating apocrine smell-generating ability. SOLUTION: The method for screening the agent for suppressing the apocrine smell selects a test substance having the activities for suppressing the apocrine smell by detecting the generation of the causative substance of the apocrine smell by Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum by bringing the microorganism into contact with a precursor of the causative substance of the apocrine smell in the presence of the test substance. The method for evaluating the apocrine smell-generating ability by the microorganism evaluates the apocrine smell-generating ability by bringing the Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum into contact with the precursor of the causative substance of the apocrine smell, detecting the generation of the causative substance of the apocrine smell by the microorganism, and measuring the generated amount of the causative substance of the apocrine smell. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin lotion that has the effect of inhibiting the production of interleukin 4 and is useful for prevention and amelioration of allergic diseases, particularly atopic dermatitis by using a specific compound as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: The objective skin lotion includes a compound of formula I as an active ingredient. The compound of formula I is synthesized through known chemical processes, a commercially available product as it is, or extracts from a plant of Myrtaceae, for example, Eucalyptus gloulus or Rhodomyrtus tomentosa and the like. In one embodiment, the compounds of formulas II and III and the like can be cited as a compound of formula I. This skin lotion is used in ointment, toilet water, cream, milky lotion, pack, cosmetic foundation, in addition in bathing agent. Further, a base for external use and other pharmaceutical components can be formulated to this skin preparation.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an IL-4 production inhibitor useful as a therapeutic agent for atopic dermatitis and allergic diseases by including a steam distillate of eucalypti as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This inhibitor comprises a fraction obtained by steam-distilling leaves, twigs, flowers or fruits of eucalypti (evergreen abores belonging to the genus Myptus globulus of the family Myrtaceae or the affinitive plants therefor), as an active ingredient. The daily dosage of the inhibitor is pref. ordinarily 0.1 to 2,000 mg per adult when used as a cosmetic, drug or aquasi- drug. By including e.g. the inhibitor, a base material for external use and other medicinal properties, there is obtained an agent composition for external use for skin suitable for preventing or treating atopic dermatitis.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject inhibitor excellent in stability, safety and cost, having preventing or treating effects on atopic dermatitis, strong in effect, comprising a plant such as Ephedra sinica or its extract as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This inhibitor comprises one or more plants selected from Ephedra sinica, Citrus aurantium, Amomumxanthioides, TAKUSYA (bulb of Alisma plantago-aquatica), Efvinga applanta, SAIKO (root of Bupleurum falcatum), cinnamon bark and Tilia japonica or its extract as an active ingredient. For example, the plant is used as or dried, ground and used. The ground dried material is subjected to an extraction treatment with water and/or an aqueous alcohol at 3-l00 deg.C, usually 3-70 deg.C. Preferably, the extract is used. A dose is preferably 0.1-2,000mg as an active ingredient per adult daily.

PURPOSE:To exactly decide the virus infection of Pogostemon patchouly by using the antiviral serum obtd. by using the virus PaMMV which indicates a gentle mosaic-like disease symptom on the leaves of the Pogostemon patchouly when said virus infects the Pogostemon patchouly. CONSTITUTION:The infected leave juice of the Pogostemon patchouly infected with the PaMMV is inoculated to the vegetable of Chenopodiaceae and the juice obtd. from the inoculated leaves infected therewith is centrifugally separated. The supernatant thereof is then taken. A nonionic surfactant is added to the supernatant which is then repeatedly subjected to the centrifugal sepn. on a cane sugar cushion to purify the PaMMV. The purified PaMMV is infected to a mammal to immunize the mammal, from which the antiviral serum is obtd. The virus disease of the Pogostemon patchouly is diagnosed by an agar gel diffusion method, latex agglutination reaction method, fluorescent antibody method, enzyme antibody method or immune electron microscopy, etc., using the said antiviral serum.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a subject novel compound that contains a specific steroid compound, shows an excellent transdermal absorption, stability and safety and is useful as a strongly effective interleukin 4 production inhibitor and as an antiallergic agent that is effective for prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis. SOLUTION: This is a novel steroid compound represented by formula I (Me is methyl) and is useful as a strongly effective interleukin 4 production inhibitor excellent in transdermal absorption, stability and safety and as an antiallergic agent the has preventive and therapeutic effect on the atopic dermatitis. This steroid compound is obtained by extracting a kind of fungus, Elfvinga (Elfvinga applanta) that has been used as a Chinese medicine. This compound also can be prepared by oxidizing ergosterol of formula II with a selenium dioxide in the presence of methanol to form an isomer followed by treatment of the product with an acid catalyst in methanol to invert the methoxy group in the 3-position thereby giving the objective compound.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently screening an apocrine smell inhibitor, and to provide a method for objectively, accurately and readily evaluating the apocrine smell. SOLUTION: The method for screening the apocrine smell inhibitor includes bringing Staphylococcus lentus into contact with a substrate of a causative agent of the apocrine smell in the presence of a test object substance, and detecting the presence or absence of the formation of the causative agent of the apocrine smell by the microorganism to select the test object substance having the apocrine smell-inhibiting activity. The method for evaluating the apocrine smell includes bringing the Staphylococcus lentus into contact with the substrate of the causative agent of the apocrine smell, and detecting the presence or absence of the formation of the causative agent of the apocrine smell by the microorganism to evaluate the apocrine smell.
