Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable proper ranking of substrates as final quality after being turned into media by converting the number of detected pixels of defects of the substrate photographed, into the number of missing errors when the substrates were turned into media. SOLUTION: A cassette 51 is conveyed to near an inspecting part through a substrate mounted cassette supply line 52b of a cassette position-based carry- out line 52. A substrate housed to be inspected is set on an inspection stage 54. Now, an inspection unit comprising an image pickup part and a spindle part lowers a turntable 56 and the spindle part ejects the substrate out of a base part 56a to be held at the tip of the spindle part. The top surface of the substrate is photographed and an image processor determines the positions of defects from an image signal of abnormal parts. Then, the number of detected pixels of the defects is converted into the number of missing errors when the substrates were turned into media and discriminated to be ranked as A, B and C based on error counts. The substrates thus ranked are housed into the cassettes 51 respectively set on A-C cassette carry-out lines 52c -52e and carried out sequentially.

Dimensions at the level difference parts 101, 102, 104, 105, are detected based on the images thus obtained.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect irregularity defect on the surface of a board to be inspected, such as a carbon board for hard disc automatically with high accuracy and a high efficiency. SOLUTION: A board to be inspected, which is stored in a cassette 51 for supply, is supplied to a turning table 56, which carries the board at a board supplying and carrying-out station A, and defect in its surface is inspected at a surface inspection station B. The front and back of the board are reversed at a reversing station, and it is sent to a back surface inspection station D to conduct defect inspection of the back surface. In the defect inspection, parallel light is radiated in the perpendicular direction to the surface to be inspected of the board to shoot the reflection of the parallel light for the detection of irregularity defect of the board surface as a contrast abnormal part. The number of the detected picture elements of detected defect is converted to a value equivalent to the number of missing errors at the time of using the board in media, a rank is determined based on the converted value, the inspected board is stored in the cassette 51 corresponding to the rank.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument capable of exactly measuring the rigidity of the microregions of a thin type flexible tape in a state more approximate to an actual machine. SOLUTION: The instrument for measuring the rigidity of the microregions of the thin type flexible tape by using a projecting head 4 pressed to the tape has a tape supporting means 2 having a curved surface 7 for supporting the tape on its outer peripheral side in a state of applying tension in its longitudinal direction. The curved surface 7 of the tape supporting means 2 has an opening 11 for inserting a projecting head 4 from the inner peripheral side to the outer peripheral side in order to be pressed to the tape 10 supported at the curved surface 7 and further has a means for controlling the displacement quantity of the projecting head 4 and a means for measuring the reaction force from the tape 10. The rigidity of the microregions of the flexible tape is measured from the measured values of the displacement quantity 4 of the projecting head and the reaction force from the tape 10.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate the butting of a small-sized head against a thin type flexible tape by protruding a protruding head to the thin type flexible tape to be stretched in a groove part in the state that prescribed tension is imparted in the longitudinal direction to measure a displacement quantify and a load and measuring the rigidity of a minute area in the thin type flexible tape from the measured values. SOLUTION: A thin type flexible tape 10 is stretched with the prescribed tension and provided in a 1st groove part 13 so as to cover a 2nd groove part 14 of a tape supporting part 7. Then, a protruding head 4 is pressed down to be brought into contact with the thin type flexible tape 10 is further pressed down to measure a load at the time of reaching a prescribed displacement quantity and this measured value is regarded as the rigidity of the thin type flexible tape 10. By this method, the butting of a small-sized magnetic head against the thin type flexible tape 10 can quantitatively be evaluated and the thin type flexible tape 10 can be obtained to have the good butting of the head and a high recording capacity.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively inspect the defect of the surface of a board. SOLUTION: Parallel beams are generated from a parallel beam generator 8, based on the light from an illumination unit 7, and incident perpendicularly to the surface of a board 4 via a half mirror 9. The reflected light from the board 4 is imaged by a CCD camera 6. The number px of the defect detection pixels of the abnormal part of the imaged picture is counted, converted to a defect volume (v), and the size of the defect is decided. The surface of the board 4 is imaged by the camera 6 while generally diffusion illuminating the surface of the board 4, and the defect area A is obtained from the imaged picture. The defect height or depth d=v/(k×A) is calculated, and the defect is judged from this as well.
