Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition to manufacture a lithographic printing plate showing high print durability and stability. SOLUTION: The coating composition is a radiation sensitive composition containing (a) at least one kind of quinone diazide compound and (b) at least one kind of copolymer containing units A, B, C and D. The units A, B, C are expressed by formulae (A), (B) and (C), respectively and the unit D is a unit having at least one free carboxyl group. In the formulae, R represents a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group and R1 represents a 1-4C alkyl group.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IR-sensitive composition capable of manufacturing a negative printing plate precursor having long storage stability, capable of continuously making a large number of copies and having a high resistance to development chemicals. SOLUTION: The IR-sensitive composition contains a free radical polymerizable system comprising a polymer binder, at least a component selected from the group consisting of an unsaturated free-radical polymerizable monomer, a free-radical polymerizable oligomer and a polymer containing a C=C bond in backbone and/or branched chain group, and an initiator system. Abstract:
A method for applying a matting layer to a radiation-sensitive layer of a printing plate precursor comprises: (a) providing a matting composition comprising a polymer and a solvent, wherein the matting composition has a solid content of more than 10% and no more than 50% by weight based on the total composition; and (b) spraying the matting composition on the radiation-sensitive layer using an electrostatically aided rotary atomizer having a bell speed of more than 10,000 rpm, wherein the distance between the bell and the radiation-sensitive layer to be coated is less than 50 cm.
Abstract:
A heat-sensitive composition, for example a coating on a lithographic printing plate, comprises a carboxylic acid derivative of a cellulosic polymer. The composition may contain a radiation absorbing compound and suitable electromagnetic radiation, preferably infra-red radiation, may be used to heat the composition imagewise. The presence of the cellulosic polymer enhances resistance to certain organic liquids.

Abstract:
A method for applying a matting layer to a radiation-sensitive layer of a printing plate precursor is disclosed. The method comprises: (a) providing a matting composition comprising a polymer and a solvent, wherein the matting composition has a solid content of more than 10% and no more than 50% by weight based on the total composition; and (b) spraying the matting composition on the radiation-sensitive layer using an electrostatically aided rotary atomizer having a bell speed of more than 10,000 rpm, wherein the distance between the bell and the radiation-sensitive layer to be coated is less than 30 cm. The printing plate precursor may be in the form of a moving web. The method of the present invention can be used for matting any kind of radiation-sensitive layer of conventional positive and negative working lithographic printing plate precursors.
