Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an ink filtration characteristic of catching fragments, etc., by effecting resorption to an ink flow channel, a projection chamber, a nozzle hole, etc., by a laser inside a polymer film through a protecting film, and defining a flow feature of a nozzle plate. SOLUTION: A polymeric film 100 coated with a protecting film is positioned on a platen. A laser 114 projects light into the polymeric film 100, thereby carrying out resorption or ablation to a flow feature and forming a plurality of nozzle plates in the film. A laser beam 116 is orientated so as to pass a mask 118, and consequently collided to the polymeric film 100. As a result, a plurality of parts of the polymeric material are removed in a required pattern from the film, and consequently the flow feature of the nozzle plate is formed. Some of the substance removed from the polymeric film 100 forms decomposed product or fragments and is piled again on the protecting film on the polymeric film 100.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing head reduced in thermal and mechanical stress and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: In a method for producing an ink jet printing head by bonding a nozzle plate to a polymer layer by heat, the polymer layer 22 is arranged between a semiconductor substrate and the nozzle plate and includes an expanding gap space or trough part sufficient to suppress the stress in a structure during the process bonding the nozzle plate 26 to the polymer layer 22. By this constitution, the problem of the positional shift and strain caused by a conventional head structure is reduced.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disposable ink cartridge for an ink jet printer capable of preventing ink from leaking therefrom. SOLUTION: A sealed reservoir 11 of an ink cartridge of an ink jet printer has one or two spring-loaded bags 21, 22 therein for functioning as an accumulator that controls a back pressure in the sealed reservoir. A source of ambient air for one or plural bags 21, 22 serves as a source of the air for an air bubble generator. The interior of the single bag or one of the two bags communicates with the air bubble generator so that air is supplied to the air bubble generator when air bubbles are required within the sealed reservoir to decrease back pressure therein. This same air flow from the interior of the single bag or one of the two bags permits the interior of the bag to receive ink leaking from the sealed reservoir passing through at least one capillary channel of the air bubble generator when the back pressure within the sealed reservoir becomes too low.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the structure inside a print head for providing an energy pulse to a heating element by providing a print head having a heater chip comprising a plurality of conductors arranged in spaced apart planes or in a matrix. SOLUTION: First and second conductors 60a to 60f, 70a to 70d provided in first and second sets 80a, 80b are arranged in a matrix having a first conductor row and a second conductor column. In order to obtain a column comprising arranged 4 pieces, each of the second conductor column comprises a single piece of the second conductors 70a to 70d. Therefore, only 6 pieces of the first conductors 60a to 60f and 4 pieces of the second conductors 70a to 70d are required for heating 24 pieces of heating elements 12. The number of the heating element 12 and the number of the first and second conductors to be provided on a chip 10 can be changed optionally.

Each heating element section 11a to 11d has 6 pieces of heating elements 12 such that the 4 heating element sections 11a to 11d provide 24 pieces of the heating elements 12. Accordingly, 8 pieces of the heating element sections 11a to 11d obtain 48 pieces of the heating elements 12.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an additional process for alignment and removal of an adhesive, by coating a composite strip including a polymeric material with a polymeric sacrifice layer, effecting resorption to a nozzle hole, etc., in the composite strip by a laser, and removing the sacrifice layer. SOLUTION: A composite strip 26 is moved along nozzle plates 150 by sprocket holes 88 arranged adjacently to confronting edge parts 89 of the composite strip 26 at the opposite side to the nozzle plates 150. The nozzle plates 150 are divided to be individual plates by ablation by a laser through a sacrifice layer, an adhesive layer and a polymeric material to form a plurality of slits 92 as rectangular patterns in the periphery of the nozzle plates 150. The slits 92 in the periphery of the nozzle plates 150 are defined by a projecting mask. A laser light is passed through a hole in the projecting mask and does not reach the composite strip 26 through the other part of the mask.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease interferences between projection chambers of a thermal ink-jet printing head and improve a flow characteristic of ink, by constituting a nozzle plate of a polymer or polymeric material having sufficient thickness to form an ink feed path connected to an ink feed area and feeding ink to the projection chambers. SOLUTION: After a flow feature and a nozzle hole 16 are formed of a polymeric material 18, a nozzle plate 10 is set to a semiconductor substrate 20 including an ink propeller device 22 such as a resistor heating ink in a projection chamber 14, etc. When the ink is heated by the ink propeller device 22 of a resistor type, components of the ink are evaporated rapidly to generate bubbles of steam. The bubbles formed in the projection chamber 14 press a part of the ink out from the projection chamber 14 through the nozzle hole 16. The ink collides against the semiconductor substrate 20. Since the bubbles of steam expand quickly in all directions, the bubbles extrude the ink also from a feed path 12.
