Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet pen equipped with a cartridge main body having a printing head and an ink cartridge detachable and replaceable with respect to the cartridge main body. SOLUTION: At least one elongated recessed part and at least one projected part are arranged on the mutually opposed surfaces of a cartridge main body (12, 20, 208, 366) and an ink cartridge (14, 22, 24, 26, 28, 202, 300, 302, 304, 306, 442) and can be engaged with each other in order to guide the ink cartridge to a desired position with respect to the cartridge main body to arrange the same.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing an ink jet cartridge comprising, forming a porous core in the shape of a flow passage; placing the porous core in an ink jet cartridge mold; and injecting a molten material around the porous core. An ink jet cartridge for an ink jet printer having a porous core in the shape of a flow passage; an ink jet cartridge body formed by injecting a molten material around the porous core, wherein the ink jet cartridge body comprises a chamber configured to contain ink, and further wherein the porous core is in fluid communication with the ink in the chamber; and a printhead provided on the ink jet cartridge body and including ink ejection nozzles and ink ejectors, wherein the ink ejection nozzles are in fluid communication with the porous core.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a filter tower structure and attachment of the structure to a cartridge body (12). The cartridge body contains one or more printheads (14) on a first surface thereof, one or more connection apertures in flow communication with the one or more printheads, each aperture having an opening on a second surface opposite the first surface and one or more ink filtration devices (28) having an outlet port connected to the second surface of the cartridge body through the opening so that each ink outlet port is in flow communication with at least one connection aperture. The device enables production of a cartridge body made of a material which is effective for removing heat from the printheads.
Abstract:
The invention provides an ink jet pen (10) including a cartridge body (12) having a printhead (16) and a replaceable ink cartridge (14) removably positionable on the cartridge body (12). At least one cooperating elongate recess (68) and at least one projection (58, 60) are located on the mutually facing surfaces of the ink cartridge (14) and the cartridge body (12). The projection and recess are engageable with one another for guidably positioning the ink cartridge (14) to a desired position relative to the cartridge body (12).
Abstract:
A printhead apparatus for filtering ink which includes an elongate open-ended trough having a bottom wall (44), and opposing end walls (42) and opposing side walls (40) attached to the bottom wall, an ink exit port (46) attached to the bottom wall between the opposing end walls and side walls, a filter member (58) disposed in the open-ended trough between the end walls and the side walls and an elongate cover assembly (36) attached to the end walls and the side walls covering the trough defining a filter chamber containing the filter element, the cover assembly containing an ink inlet valve and a gas outlet valve. The device is disposed between an ink cartridge and an ink jet pen containing one or more printheads and is activated automatically when a new ink cartridge is installed on the pen thereby removing unwanted air and gas bubbles from the filter chamber and providing gas free ink to the pen and one or more printheads.
Abstract:
The invention described in the specifications relates to an improved ink jet printer cartridge structure which includes a substrate carrier (90) or nose piece upon which semiconductor devices for ink jet printheads are mounted. The substrate carrier has a top surface (100) containing one or more substrate locator wells (92) each well having well walls (98), a well base and at least one ink feed slot in each well base and side walls attached to the top surface along the perimeter thereof. One or more of the side walls contain fins (102) for heat removal from the substrate carrier and at least two alignment devices (110) attached adjacent at least one of the side walls for precisely aligning the substrate carrier in a printer carriage. Among the advantages of the substrate carrier is that it provides a suitable means for substrate alignment for multiple substrates, a means for cooling multiple substrates, a means for fixedly or removably attaching the carrier to ink reservoir body and a means for accurately aligning the carrier and reservoir body in a carriage of a printer.

Abstract:
A printhead comprises a source of ink, a body, a mounting base, and an ink heater thermally coupled to the mounting base. A flowpath delivers ink from the ink source to the heater and is defined at least in part by the mounting base on the body. Three or more thermally conductive paths extend from the mounting base to the body. Preferably, one or more of the thermally conductive paths are heat conductive bridges extending from the mounting base to the body through an edge feed via.
Abstract:
A cartridge body contains one or more printheads on a first surface thereof and one or more connection apertures in flow communication with the one or more printheads, each aperture having an opening on a second surface opposite the first surface, and one or more separate ink filtration devices, each having an ink outlet port connected to the second surface of the cartridge body through an opening so that each ink outlet port is in flow communication with at least one connection aperture. The separate devices enable production of a cartridge body made of a material which is effective for removing heat from the printheads.
