Said method involves supplying to the engine a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity, an anti-wear agent, an ashless antioxidant, a metal-containing detergent, an ashless polyolefin dispersant, and (f) a polymeric viscosity modifier. The disclosure further provides a method of operating a high efficiency sump-lubricated gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine while maintaining or improving at least one of durability, deposit control, oxidation control, fuel economy, and resistance to knock and stochastic pre-ignition.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a block copolymer. The block copolymer may contain (a) a hydrophobic first block having C1-30 alkyl (meth)acrylic units, wherein at least 50 wt % of the C1-30 alkyl (meth)acrylic units are C12-15 alkyl (meth)acrylic units, and up to 50 wt % of the C1-30 alkyl (meth)acrylic units are C16 20 alkyl (meth)acrylic units, with the proviso that alkyl groups of the C1-30 alkyl (meth)acrylic units have an aver-age total number of carbon atoms of at least 8; and (b) a second block having (meth)acrylic units further having a heteroatom-con-taining group providing a polar group. The invention further relates to a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine by lubricating the engine with the lubricating composition. The invention further relates to the use of the block copolymer as an emulsifier and/or pour point depressant.
Abstract:

The present invention provides a low zinc lubricating composition comprising (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity, (b) a borated dispersant, and (c) a metal-free organo-phosphorus anti-wear additive, wherein the lubricating composition is substantially free of a metal containing sulfur coupled alkyl phenol compound. Further, the low zinc lubricating composition contains zinc in an amount less than 600 ppm by weight of the composition.
