Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve compatibility and performance in a radio remote communication network by handling by 1st and 2nd interconnection protocols which support a packet exchange message between a mobile switching center and a base station. SOLUTION: A 1st packet interconnection protocol 108 establishes an interface between a selection/distribution unit 108 which performs frame selection and voice encoding and an interconnection processor 114 of a base station 110 which sends the transmission of control information, signaling and user traffic to a mobile station 160. A 2nd packet interconnection protocol establishes an interface between the unit 108 and a call controller 112 of the station 110 which sends the control information. This makes it possible to customize a radio remote communication network so that a quality and cost efficiency may meet a specific reference.

Abstract: In a wireless telecommunications system including a mobile switching center, a source base station and a target base station, a method for allowing the target base station to choose a handoff type is disclosed. More particularly, the source base station specifies handoff type options which are sent to the target base station. The target base station chooses a particular handoff type and the call handoff is processed in accordance with that selection. Advantageously, multiple messages between the source base station and the target base station for agreement of handoff type are eliminated.

Abstract: A system is provided to allow a network to obtain the location of a mobile station (e.g. mobile phone) having AGPS/AFLT CDMA capability during an emergency call -- without the use of the MPCAP parameter. The MPC invokes the PDE, which is IS-801 AGPS capable, without the MPCAP parameter. The PDE then queries the mobile for its geolocation capabilities, in the absence of the MPCAP parameter. This allows a visited network (e.g. the network in which the mobile station is roaming) to obtain a position (based on IS-801 AGPS/AFLT) for roaming mobile stations that are CDMA AGPS/AFLT capable -- without the use of the network MPCAP parameter.

Abstract: In a wireless telecommunications system comprising a mobile switching center and at least two base stations, control of a selection/distribution unit (SDU) i s passed from a source base station to a target base station during source transfers. Mor e particularly, the target base station establishes a packet-based connection with the SDU so that control information relating to an active mobile call may be transfe rred from the source base station to the target base station via the SDU with the tar get base station then taking the role of the source base station in the call. Upon comple tion of the source transfer, the source base station disconnects the link based on the s econd interconnection protocol from the SDU.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for signaling between an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and a multi-mode terminal using concise primitives to support the use of IMS-based services while the multi-mode terminal is attached to either the packet switched (PS) domain or to the circuit switched (CS) domain, or moves between these domains. The present invention enables the maintenance of services state in only the IMS and in the multi-mode terminal, thus avoiding the creation or transfer of services state information as the multi-mode terminal moves between the PS and CS domains.
