Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reconfiguring a communication system, in order to effect high quality communication. SOLUTION: In the communication system of the present invention, a transmitter is reconfigured based on the state of a mobile station, e.g. the functions and capacity of a mobile station receiver, the ratio of carrier vs interference waves or the signal/noise ratio and the mobility of the mobile station. Consequently, the arrangement of the transmitter is optimized to the state of a specific mobile station receiver. In one embodiment, the transmitter is selected to operate in single transmit antenna configuration, a space time configuration, selective transmit diversity configuration or multi-output multi-input configuration.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce or eliminate interference disturbances occurring between the multi-function control channels of a base station and its adjacent base station by encoding the data which are transmitted on a multi-function control channel via a single time slot and by means of a spread spectrum format. SOLUTION: One or 2 or more time slots 203 among those designated of a frame 201 which are designated in various ways carry data to be used for executing the channel access function for a user and are designated to be used as the multi-function control channels used at a remote terminal, when a modem function is executed. The multi-function control channel has the data which are encoded and transmitted by means of a spread spectrum format, by encoding the data which are carried on the multi-function control channel. Then all other remaining time slots 203 of the frame 201 are not spread.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high quality communication system. SOLUTION: In the radio communication system using plural antennas for transmission, a method is provided for easily distinguishing pilot signals (carrier signals) transmitted from the different antennas. As one example, each of two antennas simultaneously transmits the value of a time slot in data while multiplexing the pilot signal with the data in the time division manner. A pilot signal from the first antenna of two antennas is encoded by a first code like a Walsh code and a pilot signal from the second antenna is encoded by a second code like the other Walsh code. By means of such different codes, a receiver can perform the coherent detection of signals transmitted by both the first and second antennas.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the complicity of the hardware of an RSSE method with respect to the prescribed number of states and to reduce the problem of a critical path by processing a low-order tail tap with the algorithm of low complicity such as a DFE method and processing only a high-order initial tap by the RSSE method. SOLUTION: A receiver 200 contains a temporary decision/tail processing circuit 400, processes a low-order tail tap with the cancellation algorithm of low complicity such as a decision feedback equalizer (EDF) method and cancels the tail tap by using temporary decision. The receiver 200 contains an RSSE circuit 500 as well and processes only an initial tap by a reduced state sequence (RSSE) method. Inter-symbol interference associated with the tail tap is removed by the DFE method first and the RSSE method is applied only to the more important tail tap. Namely, the taps 1 to U are processed by using RSSE and the taps U+1 to L are processed by DFE.
