Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve channel quality by compensating a usable user data carrying speed which varies quickly, dynamically allocating time slots, and increasing and decreasing the number of time slots in use according to current data carrying speed conditions and the capacity of time slots which are so already allocated to meet the conditions. SOLUTION: A frame structure 201 has 64 time slots 203, i.e., time slots 203-1 to 203-64 inside. The time slots 203 have data part 205-1 to 205-64 and protection parts 207-1 to 207-64. The number of bits per symbol, i.e., the size of signal point arrangement used to map user data for transmission and the number of time slots allocated to a user per frame are represented as a function of channel quality and user conditions of a data carrying speed for specified service quality. The time slots in a frame are dynamically allocated to various users.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for realizing training and synchronization at high speed in a high speed data rate system having a plurality of transmission/ reception antennas. SOLUTION: When a sequence having the length of the product of channel length and the number of transmission antennas is obtained, the sequence is shifted (offset) from the respective transmission antennas by different quantities. The sequences are shifted from the transmission antennas by the multiple of channel length, for example. The multiple is in the range of 0 to N-1 and N is the number of the transmission antennas. The same offset quantity is not used for the respective transmission antennas and the respective offsets are not given to channel length, for example. The whole shift quantities are maintained to be equal. Thus, the average of all the shift quantities becomes channel length. It can be decided which transmission antenna sends a signal by a receiver.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for keeping validity, even in the case of converting channel characteristics at high speed by calculating the estimate of frequency offset through a previously given algorithm, such as an LMS algorithm and using the same algorithm for estimating the channel characteristics as well. SOLUTION: A received signal sample is supplied to a subtracter 301 and subtracts a vector inner product UkWk. Respective signals at the output and input of a delay element 307 are supplied to a processing module 236, combined by a multiplier 308, and supplied to a processing module 309. The processing module 309 divides that input signal with its absolute value and generates a phase term. This phase term is rotated just by an index and supplied to the multiplier, and a phase security factor is multiplied to the input signal. The output of the multiplier is supplied to a module. Next, the estimate of an angle is evaluated so that a more simplified process can be applied.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary a user data carrying speed by composing specific one of systems for mapping to multiple multiplex signal point arrangements used by time slots of a step determined by the preamble of a specific time slot. SOLUTION: A conditional branch point 305 tests whether or not the output corresponding to a training sequence P1 is larger than the output corresponding to a training sequence P2. When the result is YES, that shows that the received training sequence is QPSK-modulated, the control advances to a step 307, packets are modulated by QPSK. Then the system for mapping to a specific signal point arrangement used for user data of a time slot is shown by the preamble of the time slot and a reception side is able to determine a system for mapping to the signal point arrangement used for each time slot.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide efficient calculation technology suitable for using it in channel estimation, channel equalization and other signal processing operations. SOLUTION: A signal processing operation is executed on a reception symbol system in a digital communication system receiver. Respective symbols show several information bits. The symbols correspond to points in given modulation constellations, which are generated by rotating regular modulation constellations (QPSK, 16-QAM, 64-QAM, 256-QAM and 1024-QAM) by a prescribed degree (45 degrees, for example). Thus, the specified signal processing operation such as finite impulse response(FIR) filtering, least mean square(LMS) estimation and maximum likelihood(ML) system detection by Viterbi algorithm can be executed without the need of a multiplier by using the rotated constellation.

Advantageously, the number of time slots used by a user is changed basically by the time slots and then the data carrying speed of the user can speedily be increased or decreased.

Then all other remaining time slots 203 of the frame 201 are not spread.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide enhanced channel sounding where the channel is linear. SOLUTION: A channel sounding system employs orthogonal sequences to meet the Cramer-Rao bound in estimating the channel and achieves considerable simplification of the structure necessary to perform the channel sounding. These advantages are achieved by developing orthogonal sequences of substantially arbitrary length as a function of first and second existing orthogonal sequences and using such orthogonal sequences for channel sounding in lieu of M- sequences. The techniques of the invention are especially suited to systems that use multiple antennas at the transmitter and multiple antennas at the receiver, so called multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) systems.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system that generates a training sequence to execute training of a receiver by using a least mean square(LMS) algorithm having a short wait time. SOLUTION: The orthogonal sequence is expanded for a channel of a finite impulse response(FIR) filter with a length Mnew from an existing orthogonal training sequence with respect to at least two channels having lengths Mold1, Mold2 shorter than the lengths Mold1 and Mold2 so that the product of the Mold1 and Mold2 is equal to the Mnew when the lengths Mold1 and Mold2 has no common prime number factor. In the case of a channel whose length is M, the orthogonal training sequence with the length Mold1 and Mold2 is expanded by repeating the training sequence oil 1 by number of Mold2 times and repeating the training sequence old 2 by number of Mold1 times when sets of the orthogonal training sequence having an initial value are found out as to known symbol sets.

SOLUTION: Each of radio data link packets 303 has a header 305, a payload 307, and a cyclic redundancy check(CRC) 309. A radio data link packet 303 further includes a header 315, a payload 317, and a CRC 319. Information from each network layer packet 301 is divided into many radio data link packets 303, which are respectively sent as one or more whole and/or partial time slots. Then data following the data in the radio data link packet including an error and the whole necessary overhead are resent.
