Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve channel quality by compensating a usable user data carrying speed which varies quickly, dynamically allocating time slots, and increasing and decreasing the number of time slots in use according to current data carrying speed conditions and the capacity of time slots which are so already allocated to meet the conditions. SOLUTION: A frame structure 201 has 64 time slots 203, i.e., time slots 203-1 to 203-64 inside. The time slots 203 have data part 205-1 to 205-64 and protection parts 207-1 to 207-64. The number of bits per symbol, i.e., the size of signal point arrangement used to map user data for transmission and the number of time slots allocated to a user per frame are represented as a function of channel quality and user conditions of a data carrying speed for specified service quality. The time slots in a frame are dynamically allocated to various users.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a protocol for interfacing between a wired network and a wireless network by composing the protocol of a resending means, etc., which resends data following the data in a radio data link packet including an error and the whole necessary overhead. SOLUTION: Each of radio data link packets 303 has a header 305, a payload 307, and a cyclic redundancy check(CRC) 309. A radio data link packet 303 further includes a header 315, a payload 317, and a CRC 319. Information from each network layer packet 301 is divided into many radio data link packets 303, which are respectively sent as one or more whole and/or partial time slots. Then data following the data in the radio data link packet including an error and the whole necessary overhead are resent.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary a user data carrying speed by composing specific one of systems for mapping to multiple multiplex signal point arrangements used by time slots of a step determined by the preamble of a specific time slot. SOLUTION: A conditional branch point 305 tests whether or not the output corresponding to a training sequence P1 is larger than the output corresponding to a training sequence P2. When the result is YES, that shows that the received training sequence is QPSK-modulated, the control advances to a step 307, packets are modulated by QPSK. Then the system for mapping to a specific signal point arrangement used for user data of a time slot is shown by the preamble of the time slot and a reception side is able to determine a system for mapping to the signal point arrangement used for each time slot.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary a user data carrying speed by making it possible to use systems for mapping to several signal point arrangements and making each constitution capable of transmitting a different number of bits for each symbol. SOLUTION: A representative frame structure 201 used for a radio communication system for an operable beam has 64 time slots 203 in itself, i.e., has 203-1 to 203-64. Each time slot 203 has a data part(DP) 205 and a protection part (G) 207. Then the system for mapping to signal point arrangement can be changed basically by the time slots 203. Advantageously, the number of time slots used by a user is changed basically by the time slots and then the data carrying speed of the user can speedily be increased or decreased.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable type electronic device having an improved display. SOLUTION: Two or more of displays or screens used to display various kinds of subsets of image signals are arranged in a portable type electronic device 100 or other electronic device. Displaying possibility for a device having a very large screen can be simulated by this manner. This device has an opened or operating form with plural screens utilized to display image signals, and a closed or non-operating form with a whole or part of the screens folded together or put in order to reduce device size for storing or carrying. By simulating operation for a large display, the electronic device displays a larger quantity of usable information than that in a conventional device having a single small screen.

Abstract: A two layered segmentation technique coupled with a two layer error detection technique is used to implement the wired to wireless network interface. A wireless network divides network layer packets from a wired network into radio data link packets, and the information within the radio data link packets is divided into portions that can be placed into time slots. Error detection is performed on each of the time slots and also at the radio data link packet level to determine if there is an error within the radio data link packet. Errors detected in any radio data link packet only requires retransmission of the radio data link packet in which the error was detected, and, advantageously, do not require retransmission of the entire network layer packet as would have been required in a system that mapped directly from network layer packets to time slots.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system, the constellation mapping scheme employ ed may be changed on a per-time-slot basis, i.e., from time slot to time slot, so that the constellation used to encode the symbols of each time slot may be different for each time slot within a single frame and may be different for a particular time slot i n different consecutive frames. In other words, several constellation mapping schemes ar e available, with each providing the ability to transmit a different number of bits per symbol, and the particular constellation mapping scheme employed for any time slot need be selected for that time slot only. The ability to use any particular constellation mapping scheme is dependent on the current channel quality. The particular constellation mappi ng used for the user data of the time slot may be indicated in the preamble of the time slot. To this end, each time slot may have its own preamble that is mapped with a constellation mapping scheme which is a) known à priori, b) may be the same for all time slots, and c) may be different from the constellation mapping scheme used to encode user data in the time slot. A receiver can determine the constellation mapping used for each time slot from solely from the preamble of the time slot.

Abstract: In a system in which the modulation scheme employed may change on a per-time-slot basis, a user's available data rate may change even if the user maintains the same number of time slots, because the capacity of the user's time slots may change. If one or more such changes in modulation scheme occurs, the data rate available to the user may no longer match his current data rate needs. Therefore, a method is disclosed for determining the number of time slots to assign to a user as a function of the user's current data rate requirement and the actual current cumulative data rate of the time slots currently assigned to the user. The user data rate requirement may further be a function of a quality of service (QoS) contracted for by the user. Thus, the assignment of the time slots within the frame is made dynamically and the number of time slots employed by a user is increased or decreased according to the user's current data rate requirements and the ability of the time slots already assigned to the user to meet those requirements.
