    Abstract: A high-pressure metal-vapor discharge lamp is formed by enclosing scandium-halide, preferably scandium-iodide (ScI3) in the amount of 1.80 X 10 7 to 9.27 X 10 6 gram mol/cc of confined gas, and at least 3.1 times said halide quantity in atomic ratio of free (metal) scandium, together with some mercury as a buffer gas, inside a translucent alumina tube. Such discharge lamp can maintain a luminous efficiency of over 70 lumen/Watt and a general color-rendering index of over 70 for a period in excess of 6,000 hours, and thus, it is very useful as a general lighting source.

    Abstract: HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM VAPOR DISCHARGE LAMP The specification discloses a high pressure sodium vapor discharge lamp comprising an alumina tube envelope containing sodium, an inert starting gas, a mercury or cadmium buffer gas source and a pair of discharge electrodes. The inner diameter d in mm of the tubular envelope and the average potential gradient E in volt/cm has the following relationship: E ? 37.7-2.05d. The lamp further comprises a radiation suppressing means at least partially surrounding the tube envelope for selectively, and at least partially, absorbing red radiation having wavelengths longer than 620 nm. The lamp achieves a higher color temperature and a higher general color rendering index than conventional lamps of this type without an undesirable increase in the tube voltage, and is suitable for highly efficient indoor illumination.

    Abstract: The high pressure metal vapour discharge lamp contains a transparent aluminium oxide tubular burner containing a buffer gas, respective phosphors, and a starting rare gas. The gas mixture contains 1.80 x 10-7 to 9.27 x 10-6 g. mol. of a scandium halide, such as scandium iodide, scandium bromide or scandium chloride per each cubic cm. of the tubular burner inner space, to which is added at least 3.1 times quantity of metallic scandium, calculated as atomic ratio of free scandium to that bound in the halide. The metallic scandium forms the phosphor. Various other scandium halide and metallic scandium ratios may be used. Preferably the lamp containts an additional quantity of a halide of an alkali metal, of a metal from the titanium group a metal of the niobium group and/or the rare earths.

CONSTITUTION:A luminous tube 1 is arranged in a quartz outer tube 7 whose inside is made vacuous, and electric conductor 2 and 3 having electrodes on the tips are sealed up on both edges of this luminous tube. A ring shape getter 4 consisting of tungsten and titanium is penetratingly out-fitted on the peripheral part of the electric conductors 2 and 3 in the luminous tube so as to be supported with them.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a sodium leak for a long period by coating a titanium metal on an external lead wire in advance, melting a titanium brazing filler metal by heating, and sealing the external lead wire to a conducting tube. CONSTITUTION:An external lead wire coated with titanium on the surface in advance is connected to one end of an electrode rod 3 holding an electrode coil 2 made of tungsten. The external lead wire is inserted into a hole formed at the closed section 6a of a conducting tube 6, a titanium brazing filler metal 5 is melted, and the external lead wire 4 is airtightly sealed in the hole of the conducting tube 6. The conducting tube 6 is airtightly sealed with frit 7 at both end sections of a light emitting tube 1 with the opening section facing the inside.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the saturation of the material irradiated by forming a neodymium oxide film on the outer surface of a glass tube, and by forming a protective film thereon. CONSTITUTION:A phosphor (Ca10(PO4)6FCl:Sb, Mn) 2 such as a calcium halophosphate phosphor is coated on the inner surface of a glass tube 1, and a neodymium oxide film 4 is deposited on the outer surface of the glass tube 1, with a protective film 5 formed thereupon. The light near 568-589nm of this lamp is absorbed by the neodymium oxide, and the saturation is increased thereby.
