Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel comprising a plurality of first electrodes disposed in parallel with each other, a plurality of second electrodes disposed in parallel with each other and perpendicular to the first electrodes, the second electrodes having a plurality of blocks, and a driving means to apply pulses to the second electrodes, wherein the different electrodes belonging to the different blocks are successively scanned in the predetermined order. Alternatively, the different electrodes may be scanned by repeating applications of pulse to a second electrode belonging to a certain block and to a second electrode belonging to either of the adjacent blocks.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a high-quality display by using an anode bus made of a transparent conducting film printed and formed with a thick film and anode auxiliary lines made of a metal printed and formed with a thick film as anode lines, and connecting them. CONSTITUTION:When a positive voltage with respect to a cathode line 3 is applied to an anode line 11, a discharge cell 6 at the intersection is discharged and illuminated. A metal line 7 is formed on a front plate 2 by the thick film printing method, and an indium oxide ITO film 8 is formed on it by the thick film printing method as the anode line 11. When only the ITO film 8 is used for the anode lines 11, currents flowing on individual discharge cells are made nonuniform to cause intensity irregularities because the ITO film 8 has high resistance. The ITO film 8 and the metal lines 7 are connected together over the whole length to prevent this problem, and the currents flow on the metal lines 7. The discharge start voltage is reduced, and a stable display can be attained by the sure ignition of an electric discharge.

When the brightness or the state of light color is continuously changed, the total of rated consumed powers of the fluorescent lamps of the respective colors is changed depending on the range of the light color to be controlled, whereby each fluorescent lamp can be efficiently utilized.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a DC gas discharge type display device adapted to be driven with a pulse-memory system, which gives a practical level of luminescence brightness with small cell pitches, has a sufficient pixel density for OA and exhibits a high luminescence brightness. CONSTITUTION:Grouped cathode members 2 are disposed on a rear panel 1 and intra- cathode spaces are sectioned by long-sized partition-wall strips 3 to provide discharge spaces. Further, several mutually adjoining cathode members of the grouped cathode members 2 are collectively regarded as one block, and a block partition wall 4 is installed, in parallel with the cathode members, between each two adjacent of the blocks. On the partition-wall strip group 3 there is adhered a glass plate 7 on which grouped anodes 5 and fluorescent materials 6 are coated and burned, so that the anodes 5 and cathode members 2 may oppose while intersecting each other at right angle, whereby the glass plate 7 is hermetically sealed with respect to the strip group 3. Scanning of the cathode members is not sequentially performed, but is conducted so that simultaneous discharge may not occur in two or more discharge spaces each having a cathode member included in the same block. By so doing, a panel with small cell pitches necessary for OA has a high luminescence brightness and has no display error.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the taillight which is thin and has uniform light emission brightness by utilizing a plasma display panel. CONSTITUTION:A back plate 1 and a glass plate 2 are held at an equal interval, their peripheries are sealed, and gas consisting principally of neon is charged therein. Two electrodes 4 and 5 are installed in the flat plate type discharge space which is thus formed and the entire space is discharged by external voltage application to illuminate. Consequently, the whole flat plate type lamp emits red light in the principle of a plasma display, so the taillight which has a uniform light emission distribution is realized. Further, this taillight contributes to the expansion of the spaces in the trunk room and room of an automobile because of the thin structure of the taillight main body.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To realize a thin type structure and concurrently ensure the repeatability of various types of light color on a luminous screen without any irregularity. CONSTITUTION:Electric discharge channels 2b separated from each other with divisions 2a and having electrodes 3 at both ends are laid in parallel like a blind in space between opposite front and rear plates 1 and 2. The internal side of each channel 2b is coated with a phosphor 6 emitting a different color of light. Also, the channel 2b is internally filled with electric discharge medium gas, and the plates 1 and 2 are sealed, so as to keep airtightness. In this case, the plate 1 acts as a luminous screen allowing the emission of light, and a light diffusion plate 7 is laid at a micro distance from the screen. According to this construction, a luminous screen having a thin structure and a uniform color mixture can be provided.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a direct-current type gas discharge display device having a high rate of aperture and enabling stable discharge to be effected therein, by adopting the anode configuration permitting a reduction in the discharge start voltage. CONSTITUTION:The area of a projected anode 11 portion onto a cathode is made to occupy 20% to 50% inclusive, of the total area of the cathode 3. The portion of the anode 11 other than the mentioned anode 11 portion is made as thin as possible to ensure a sufficient rate of opening. The discharge-starting voltage depends upon the uniformity of the potential prevailing between the cathode 3 and the anode 11. Since, therefore, it is possible to make uniform the potential distribution by making the area of the opposition portion between the cathode 3 and the anode 11 a specified value or a greater value than it, through enlarging of the projected anode 11 area on the cathode 3 it is possible to decrease the discharge-starting voltage to obtain a high quality of display based on a reliable discharge ignition.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the gas discharge type display device which is improved in directivity and with which high brightness is obtainable. CONSTITUTION:Lenses 7 and anodes 6 are installed on a front glass plate 1 and cathodes 5 are provided on a rear glass plate 2. The front glass plate 1 and the back glass plate 2 are held to face each other by insulators 3 and discharge spaces 4 are formed therebetween. The light emitted in the discharge spaces 4 and diffused in all directions is eventually condensed to one direction before the light is passed through the front glass 1 by the effect of the lenses 7. Then, the light concentrates in an observation direction and, therefore, the high brightness is obtd. even if the display device is formed with the higher finenes.
