Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel comprising a plurality of first electrodes disposed in parallel with each other, a plurality of second electrodes disposed in parallel with each other and perpendicular to the first electrodes, the second electrodes having a plurality of blocks, and a driving means to apply pulses to the second electrodes, wherein the different electrodes belonging to the different blocks are successively scanned in the predetermined order. Alternatively, the different electrodes may be scanned by repeating applications of pulse to a second electrode belonging to a certain block and to a second electrode belonging to either of the adjacent blocks.

Abstract: A method for driving a gas discharge display panel consists of the steps of applying a writing pulse on a specific display electrode line selected from display electrode lines arranged side by side in the panel, applying a scanning pulse on a specific scanning electrode line selected from scanning electrode lines which are arranged side by side and cross the display electrode lines to produce writing gas discharge in cooperation with the writing pulse in a specific discharge cell arranged at an intersection space between the specific display electrode and the specific scanning electrode line, and applying a series of maintaining pulses subsequent to the scanning pulse on the specific scanning electrode during only a maintaining period to produce maintaining gas discharge subsequent to the writing gas discharge in the specific discharge cell, the maintaining gas discharge being intermittently produced in synchronism with the maintaining pulses. The scanning pulse is applied in synchronism with the writing pulse. The maintaining gas discharge is stopped without applying any pulse after the maintaining period passes.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify and reduce the power consumption a driving circuit without spoiling high-brightness characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The gas discharge display device consists of display electrode groups A1, A2... made of linear electrodes and scanning electrode groups K1, K2... which are made of linear electrodes and so installed as to form a lattice with the display electrode groups A1, A2... while discharging gas is charged between both the kinds of electrode groups. Display information write pulses are applied to the display electrode groups A1, A2 and scanning pulses are applied to the scanning electrodes K1 K2... to start display discharge; and a maintaining pulse train is applied to the scanning electrodes K1, K2... for a constant successive period to maintain the discharge. Consequently, high brightness is obtained and the display anode driving circuit is simplified; and the application of the maintaining pulses to the scanning electrodes K1, K2... is limited to only a display period, so the power consumption is reducible by circuit constituent components.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an accurate coordinate input display device excellent in the reproducibility of an inputted image by applying a gas discharge display panel as a display part and using a means for starting discharging from the external part as an input part. CONSTITUTION:The gas discharge display panel (PDP) 10 is an image display part where a discharge cell 13 positioned at the intersected point of both electrodes is discharged and light is emitted by selecting one anode and one cathode out of a group of anodes 11 and a group of cathodes 12 and impressing a voltage on them. The group of anodes 11 and the group of cathodes 12 in the PDP 10 are respectively connected with an anode driving circuit 14 and a cathode driving circuit 15 where a synchronous pulse is supplied by a pulse generator 18. And an input equipment 16 is separated from the PDP 10, and it is a pen type component and the group of anodes 11 is connected with a discharge detection circuit 17. And by making the input equipment 16 close to the PDP 10, gas discharge is started and the light is emitted in a discharging space. By using the PDP 10 for the purpose of both of the detection and the display of the input coordinate in such a way, the input coordinate and a display coordinate are made to correspond to the same picture element, so that the image can be accurately inputted and displayed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance uniformity in brightness and display of a gas discharge display device. CONSTITUTION:A front face glass 9 in which a 1st electrode wire group 10 is formed and a rear face plass 1 in which a 2nd electrode wire group 2, an electrode member 3 and a resistance element 4 for connecting together the 2nd electrode wire group 2 and the electrode member 3 are formed, are held together in opposite relation with a partitioning wall 6, so that a discharge cell 11 is formed. In this gas discharge display device, the 2nd electrode wire group is formed by an etching method, and the resistance element 4 is formed by a sand blast method.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the driving method which facilitates the IC-implementation of a driving circuit for cathodes by decreasing the current capacity required for the IC when the cathode is driven by the IC. CONSTITUTION:The gas discharge type display device has two kind of display matrix electrode groups, i.e., a cathode group consisting of cathodes K1, K2, K3,... and an anode group 2 consisting of anodes A1, A2, A3,..., and one cell 5 is formed at each of the intersections of the cathodes and anodes. In the cathode group 1, L adjacent cathodes are put together in one block to divide the group into (n) blocks, and the cathodes in the (m) block are denoted as Km, Kn+m, K2n+m,... K(L-1)n+m. The cathode group 1 which is divided into the blocks is scanned in the subscript increasing order of K1, K2, K3,... from the cathode K1. This scanning method makes the current capacity of the IC required for driving less than before when the cathodes are driven by the IC, so the IC-implementation of the driving circuit for the cathodes is facilitated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a gas electric discharge type display with high brightness and to extend the life of the display by means of the sputter preventing effect of mercury by providing partition walls parallel to cathodes at each cathode block, and performing scanning in such a manner that discharge cells in the same block do not simultaneously enter a period of selection. CONSTITUTION:A cathode group 11 consisting of cathodes K1, K2,... are installed on a back panel 1 and spaces among the cathodes are partitioned into discharge spaces by a partition wall group 13 consisting of long strip. partition walls W1, W2,... each of which orthogonally intersects the cathode group 11. The cathode group 11 are bound into blocks each consisting of the L number of cathodes and block partition walls 14 parallel to the cathodes are installed between the blocks. On each partition wall group an anode group 12 consisting of anodes A1, A2,... and a glass plate 4 to which phosphor 5 is applied and baked are brought into sealing contact with each other in such a manner that the anode group 12 and the cathode group 11 orthogonally intersect and are opposite each other, and discharge cells 6 are formed at points of intersection of the groups 11,12. Thereafter the whole display is hermetically sealed and rare gas and a small amount of mercury are sealed therein. The cathode group 11 are divided into (n) blocks and scanning is performed at each block so that two cathodes in the same block do not cause display discharge simultaneously.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent irregular flickering of light output from occurring, by connecting auxiliary anodes with internal introduction lines and positioning their ends between two of the internal introduction lines, with an interval between their ends and a filament coil centering axis being specified. CONSTITUTION:Auxiliary anodes 5 are respectively connected with two internal introduction lines 4 which hold a filament coil 6, to compose a fluorescent lamp 1 of 29mm or less in inner tubular diameter. Then, each end of the auxiliary anodes 5 is positioned approximating to a centering axis Y-Y of the lamp 1 by about 3mm against the internal introduction line 4. Besides, a distance (a) between each of the ends and a centering axis of the filament coil 6 is set up in approximately less than 4mm. During an anode cycle in ac lighting, one part of the lamp current is fed into pointed-ends of the auxiliary anodes 5, to branch. Therefore, a rise in temperature of the filament coil 6 can be suppressed to stabilize anode oscillation, preventing irregular flickering from occurring.
