Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a cost by surely oil-tightly connecting the upstream end part of a head side oil passage 85 to the downstream end part of a case side oil passage 101 without mounting a sealing member or the like when oil is fed to variable valve systems 53 and 54 through the oil passage 101 formed in a chain case 7. SOLUTION: An engine mount mounting part 92 is integrally formed with the chain case 7, and connected to a cylinder head front end wall part 4b with three bolts, and a case side jointing surface 100a formed on the engine mount mounting part 92 is oil-tightly jointed to a body side jointing surface 61a of the cylinder head front end wall part 4b. The downstream end part of the case side oil passage 101 is opened to the case side jointing surface 100a, and the upstream end part of the head side oil passage 85 is so opened as to communicate with the downstream opening part of the case side jointing surface 100a in the body side jointing surface 61a.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make the cost of production cheaper with the same suction valve used as well as to form a swirl, by equalizing each size of plural suction holes installed in each cylinder, and throttling a port of the suction port in the most distant position from the cylinder center. CONSTITUTION:When plural suction holes 9 and 10 are installed in a cylinder 4, each suction hole is formed into the same form and the same area. And, a throttle 5a is installed in a suction port 5A to be interconnected to the most distant position from the cylinder center. With this constitution, for a suction valve to be installed in each cylinder, such one as the same form is usable and, what is more, a swirl is formable owing to the throttle 5a.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve productivity by providing a cylinder head of a split- structure of an end portion member having a recess portion facing a chain case and a main body member in a structure where the lower surface of a cam sprocket disposed at the end portion of the cylinder head is fitted in the recess portion. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder head 3 of an engine is formed in a two-split structure of an end portion member 8 having a recess portion 7 corresponding to a recess portion 6 opened to a chain case 5 on the cylinder block 2 side in the vicinity of a cam sprocket 4 in the longitudinal direction of the engine and a main body member 9. A cam shaft 11 is disposed on a bearing portion 10 of the main body member 9, and the cam sprocket 4 is fixed to a portion of the cam, which is projected from the main body member 9 toward the end portion member 8 side through a key 13. The cam sprocket 4 is driven by the engine through a timing chain 15. A cylinder head cover 17 is fitted to the upper end surface of the cylinder head 3 of a two-split structure through a gasket 16.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable reduction of the generation of slip noise, by a method wherein flange parts are mounted to both sides of a pulley, and a timing belt is substantially prevented from axial movement. CONSTITUTION:By means of flange parts 61 of a water pump pulley 6 located on the limpness side of a timing belt 5, the timing belt 5 is prevented from axial movement. As a result, when the timing belt 5 is moved in the direction of the axis of the water pump pulley 6 and brought into contact with the inner surface of the flange 61, the timing belt 5 is deformed. This prevents the side of the timing belt 5 from being rubbed with a pressure with the inner surface of the flange 61, and enables prevention of the generation of loud slip noise.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simply uniformize a combustion pressure among cylinders, by a method wherein a leak down time of each of rush adjusters positioned facing their respective cylinders having a low combustion pressure is set to a value lower than that of a cylinder having a high combustion pressure. CONSTITUTION:The upper end parts of valve stems 10a and 11a of suction and exhaust valves 10 and 11, opening and closing suction and exhaust ports 4a and 4b, respectively, in a cylinder head 4 through the working of a hydraulic type rush adjuster 13, are brought into contact with the outer end part of each locker arm 9, and the valves 10 and 11 are opened and closed against a spring 12 along with rocking of each locker arm 9. In this device, each of rush adjusters 13, respectively positioned facing second and third cylinders 2b and 2c, reduced in a pressure due to the shape of suction manifold 2 and the ignition order of cylinders 2a-2d, has a leak down time which is set to a value lower than that of each rust adjuster 13 corresponding to each of first and fourth cylinders 2a and 2b having a relatively high combustion pressure.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent cooling water from flowing into a suction air passage as well as to reduce the time required for removal of a carburetor to the shortest possible extent, by installing a weir projectingly between the suction air passage of a suction manifold and an opening part to the carburetor setting seat surface of the suction manifold in a cooling water passage. CONSTITUTION:A cooling water passage 16 is formed up along a suction air passage 17 of a suction manifold 6. A weir 21 is projected upward between a suction port part 25 of the suction air passage 17 and an opening part 19 to a setting seat surface 8 of a carburetor 9. When the carburetor 9 is disassembled from the suction manifold 6, cooling water flows out of the opening part 19 into the top of the carburetor setting seat surface 8, and the outflow of the cooling water comes to a stop as its level goes down to the seat surface 8. Having intercepted by the weir 21, the cooling water will in no case flow into the suction air passage 17. Thus, dispensing with troublesome draining work for the cooling water, removal of the carburetor can be easily carried out in a short time.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the rigidity of a cylinder head, and ensure a smooth flow of cooling water by connecting a sub-chamber forming wall and port forming walls to each other by a protruded part, and deflecting the flow o5 main cooling water flowing along the bottom wall upwardly on the upstream side of a discharge opening of a sub-cooling water passage. CONSTITUTION:The lower parts of port forming walls 11a, 12a which are located adjacent to a discharge opening 56 of a sub-cooling water passage with respect to the discharge opening 56, and the lower part of a sub-chamber forming wall 19 are connected to each other by a reinforcing means for enhancing the rigidity of a cylinder head 1. A protruded part 70 of a bottom wall 60 for deflecting the flow of main cooling water flowing along the bottom part 60 upwardly is provided. As a result, the flow of sub-cooling water is discharged from the discharge opening 56 without being interrupted by the flow of main cooling water, and then joins with the flow of main cooling water in the downstream of the discharge opening 56. Thus, the rigidity of the cylinder head 1 is enhanced by a comparatively lightweight structure, and a smooth flow of cooling water can be ensured.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress the valve operating noise and improve the silent property in an engine having to intake valves and one exhaust valve per cylinder, by making an operating speed of the exhaust valve at a final stage of valve closing greater than that of the intake valves at an initial stage of valve opening in an overlap period. CONSTITUTION:When a cam shaft 13 is rotated synchronously with an engine, two intake vales 6 and one exhaust valve 7 per cylinder are opened and closed through rocker arms 16 and 17 by intake and exhaust cam surface 13a and 13b formed on the cam shaft 13. In such a valve operating device, the profile of the cam surface 13a and 13b is so formed as to retard an operating speed (ramp speed) of the intake valves 6 and the exhaust valve 7 at an initial stage of valve opening and a final stage of valve closing, respectively. Further, in a valve overlap period of the intake valves 6 and the exhaust valve 7, the operating speed of the exhaust valve 7 at the final stage of valve closing is set to greater than the ramp speed of the intake valves 6 at the initial stage of valve opening. Accordingly, a silent valve operation may be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the draining of cooling water in time of removing a carburetor as well as to prevent the cooling water from penetrating to a suction air passage, by blocking up a drain hole installed in a cooling water passage in a way of making full use of a carburetor clamping bolt which secures the carburetor tight to a suction manifold. CONSTITUTION:A cooling water passage 16 is formed up along a suction air passage 17 of a suction manifold 6. A carburetor clamping bolt 12 secures a carburetor 9 tight to the suction manifold 6. The bolt hole of a carburetor setting flange 22 in which the clamping bolt 12 is pierced through serves as a drain hole 23. When the carburetor 9 is disassembled, the bolt 12 is loosened to some extent, opening the drain hole 23, and cooling water is drained outside. When a level of the cooling water goes down to a bottom surface 26, the outflow of the cooling water comes to a stop. Doing like this, the quantity of drainage in the cooling water can be reduced and, what is better, removal of the carburetor can be easily carried out in a short time.
