Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an optically active epoxide useful for a synthetic intermediate for medicines, agrochemicals, etc., ferroelectric liquid crystal, etc., by reacting an olefin compound with oxygen in the presence of both an optically active metal compound such as a new Mn (III) complex, etc., and an aldehyde compound. CONSTITUTION:An olefin compound (e.g. 1,2-dihydronaphthalene) is reacted with oxygen in the presence of both an optically active metal compound composed of a new manganese (II) compound of the formula (R and R are H, alkyl or aryl; R to R are H, alkyl, aryl, acyl or alkoxycarbonyl; X is anion) and an aldehyde compound (e.g. pivalic aldehyde) at room temperature in an oxygen atmosphere under stirring to give the objective optically active epoxide [(1R,2S)-epoxy-3,4-dihydronaphthalene, etc.] useful for a synthetic intermediate for physiologically active compounds such as medicines, agr'ichemicals, etc., a functional material such as ferroelectric liquid crystal, etc., and a synthetic intermediate for fine chemicals.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To profitably obtain the subject compound useful for various kinds of uses such as an intermediate for synthesizing medicines, agricultural chemicals or perfumes, a raw material for polyamides, and surfactants by using inexpensive and safe compounds. SOLUTION: This method for producing a diamine comprises reacting a nitroolefin of formula I (R is H, an alkyl, etc.; R , R are each H, an alkyl, etc.) with an 0-alkyl hydroxylamine of the formula: R ONH2 (R is H, an alkyl, etc.) as starting materials at a reaction temperature for a reaction time, and subsequently subjecting the obtained compound of formula II to a hydrogenation method such as a catalytic hydrogenation reaction method using a heterogeneous catalyst such as Pd-adhered activated carbon as a catalyst in an alcohol as a solvent to produce the 1,2-diamine of formula III. The reaction temperature and the reaction time are suitably selected in response to the substrate of the compound of formula I, but the reaction temperature is usually preferably 0-50 deg.C.

CONSTITUTION:This optically active compound of formula IV (* is optically active point) can be produced by reacting a chromene derivative of formula I (R , R and R each is H, an alkyl or an aryl; R is H, an alkyl, an aryl, cyano, nitro, etc.; (n) is 1-4) in the presence of oxygen molecule, an aldehyde of formula II (R , R and R each is H, an alkyl, etc.) and an optically active manganese(III) complex catalyst of formula III (R and R each is H, an alkyl, an aryl, etc.; R , R , R and R13 each is H, an alkyl, silyl, an aryl, etc.; X is an anion). An optically active chromene oxide having inverted absolute steric configuration can be produced by carrying out the reaction in the presence of a nitrogen-containing compound. The chromene compound is useful as an intermediate for an agent for the treatment of hypertension or asthma.

Safe and inexpensive oxygen molecule is usable as the oxidizing agent.

CONSTITUTION: This compound of formula IV (* denotes an optically active center) is obtained by reaction of (A) a sulfide of formula I (R and R are each an alkyl, alicyclic hydrocarbon or aryl) (e.g. cyclopentylmethyl sulfide) with oxygen molecules in the presence of (B) an aldehyde of formula II (R -R are each H or an alkyl) (e.g. pivalaldehyde) using an optically active manganese (III) complex catalyst of formula III (R and R are each H, an alkyl or aryl; R is an alkyl, aryl or alkoxyl; R is an alkyl or aryl; X is an anion). It is preferable, for example, that the amounts of the components B and C to be used per mol of the component A be 3-8 moles and 5-20 moles, respectively.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a glycerol derivative useful for an intermediate for medicines and agricultural chemicals and a raw material for polymers in high yield without damaging an ester group from an epoxy group-containing compound by a new reaction using a nickel compound with a specific structure as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy group-containing compound (e.g. 2,3-epoxy-3- methylbutyl benzoate) of formula I (R to R are H, alkyl or aryl and R and R as well as R and R form a ring; R is alkyl or aryl; (n) is 1 or 2) is reacted with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a nickel compound ([e.g. bis(3-methyl-2,4-pentanedionato)nickel] of formula II (R to R are H, alkyl or aryl) as a catalyst to give a glycerol derivative of formula III or formula IV. Further, the reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an aldehyde compound of formula V (R'' is alkyl, alkenyl or aryl) or a carbonyl-containing compound of formula VI or formula VII (R to R are alkyl). Further, the reaction is done preferably in the presence of a synthetic zeolite compound.
