    Abstract: An apparatus for producing wire harness assemblies, each assembly comprising a plurality of cable wires having opposed ends with terminals (156) mounted to said wires at one end of said cable wires and a housing (154) at one of said ends with a plurality of said terminals mounted therein, said apparatus comprising an insertion station for inserting the terminals into the housing, at least one probe assembly (211) at the insertion station, said probe assembly including a plurality of probes corresponding in number to the number of terminals (156), each said probe being configured to engage a corresponding terminal; means (217) for moving the probes selectively into and out of engagement with the terminals (156); and means (216) for moving the housing (154) relative to the terminals (156) and the probes such that the probes guide the housing during the insertion of the terminals.

    Abstract: In a termination machine (20) for inserting wires (22) into insulation displacement slots (32) (see Fig. 8) of terminals (24) of an electrical connector (26) during each termination stroke, a connector locating member (80) moves together with a termination blade (128) to precisely position the connector (26) for termination. A wire locator (144) moves together with the termination blade (128) and moves the wire (22) into a guide slot (148) in a template (146) over the connector (26). When the blade (128), the wire (22) and the connector (26) are in precise alignment, the termination blade (128) completes the termination stroke. A feed slide (62) and pawl system (72, 78) moves the connector (26) in steps equal to the terminal centerline spacing (X) (Fig. 9) and the feed stroke is selectively adjusted to skip voids where terminals (24) are not to be terminated with wires (22).

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for terminating a coaxial connector (10) to a coaxial cable (12). The coaxial connector has an elongated signal pin surrounded in part by an insulating jacket (16) and an elongated shield member (18) surrounding the insulating jacket while the coaxial cable has a signal wire (27) surrounded by an inner insulating member (28), ground means (34, 34) surrounding the insulating jacket and an outer insulating sheath (32) surrounding the ground means. The method includes providing an elongated conductive shield member having a front portion (54) and a rear portion (56). The front portion of the shield member is secured onto the insulating jacket surrounding the signal pin whereby a portion of the signal pin is positioned within the rear portion. The ground means is electrically and mechanically bonded to the rear portion of the shield member. The signal wire is then electrically and mechanically bonded to an exposed portion of the signal pin within the rear portion of the shield member while the signal pin is held by the shield member. The rear portion of the shield member is then closed around the bonded portions of the signal wire and the ground means.
