Abstract:
A device 10 for deflecting a loose fill product from the seal zone of a bag 20 and sealing the bag is provided. The device includes a product stopper 14. The product stopper is adjacent to the sealing element 12 of a bagging machine. The product stopper includes a mount 15 that mounts the product stopper to a bagging machine and a pinching element 37 that pinches a bag proximal to a sealing zone 24 before the bag is sealed by the sealing element at the sealing zone. In one embodiment, the pincher includes a spring loaded mechanism 45 for pinching the bag proximal to the sealing zone. In another embodiment, the pincher includes an air assist mechanism for pinching the bag proximal to the sealing zone. A method of sealing a bag to prevent a product from entering a seal zone of the bag prior to sealing is also provided.

An innerframe (14) is within and upwardly extends from the outerframe (16), and the innerframe (14) has front (62) and opposite sidewall portions (64) (66). Microencapsulated aroma surfaces (68) on the pack move across roughened perforations (60) on the pack (10) (10') upon opening of the pack (10) (10') to thereby release flavor by rupturing the microcapsules.

A sealed pocket (19) formed on a package overwrap (20) , such as the overwrap (20) around a cigarette package (22), is provided with an aromatic substance (18) (38) (48). The pocket (19) containing the aromatic (18) (38) (48) is placed proximate to a tear strip (14). As the tear strip (14) is pulled along and removed from the package (22) the pocket (19) is opened, the aromatic substance (18) (38) (48) is exposed to the air and an aroma is released.

A consumer pack (28) with flexible outerwrap (14) around the pack (28) has a tear tape (16) between the pack (28) and the outerwrap (14) for separating the outerwrap (14) into upper (30) and lower (32) portions when the consumer pack (28) is opened. A multi-layer aromatic strip (12) is positioned on an outer surface of the outerwrap (14) just outside the tear tape (16) , and the aromatic strip (12) is secured thereto by an adhesive layer (24) . The aromatic strip (12) includes a fibrous substrate (22) soaked with fragrance and an outer barrier surface (20) that seals in the fragrance. When the tear tape (16) separates the outerwrap (14) into upper (30) and lower (32) portions, the outer barrier surface (20) and the fibrous substrate (22) are broken open to release fragrance to the surroundings .

A hinge lid pack is disclosed. The hinged lid pack comprises a lower pack outerframe and an upper lid hingedly attached to the lower pack outerframe for movement between open and closed position. The lid includes front, top, back and opposite sidewall portions, and an innerframe within and extending upwardly from the lower pack outerframe. The innerframe has front and opposite sidewall portions. Microencapsulated aroma surfaces are provided outside the opposite sidewall portions of the innerframe. Roughened perforations are provided inside the opposite side wall portions of the lid where the microencapsulated aroma surfaces are ruptured by the roughened perforations upon opening of the lid to thereby release aroma upon such opening.
