Abstract:
A system and method for detecting non-conforming packages such as cigarette packages during travel along a conveyor path. A foil detector can be used to detect a non-conforming foil condition of the packages and a vision inspection system can be used to detect a non-conforming surface feature of the package. The foil detector and vision inspection system can be located at a single inspection station and non-conforming packages can be removed at an ejection station. The ejection station can include a first ejection mechanism such as an air jet for removing packages having a non-conforming foil condition and a second ejection mechanism such as another air jet can be used to remove a package having a non-conforming surface feature. The vision inspection system can include a plurality of video cameras and a reflector which illuminates the package to be inspected with diffused light. The reflector can surround the package undergoing inspection and baffles can be arranged within the reflector housing to prevent hot spots from appearing in the images recorded by the cameras. Using three cameras, one camera can view a surface of the package facing away from the conveyor belt, a second camera can be used to view the top and one side of the package, and the third camera can be used to view the bottom and the other side of the package.
Abstract:
A machine (10) for folding and applying onserts onto consumer goods such as cigarette packs (14) comprises a continuous roll of preprinted onserts and a transverse cutter assembly for cutting onsert segments from the continuous roll (18). Each onsert segment includes a pair of side-by-side preprinted onserts (12). A buckle folder receives each cut onsert segment (22) and folds that segment along at least one transverse fold line. A longitudinal cutter assembly longitudinally cuts each folded onsert segment into two individual onserts.

Abstract:
A pair of cigarette packs (12) each have a back wall (22) with the packs (12) arranged adjacent one another in back-to-back relationship. A sachet (30) is releasably attached to the back wall of (22) each pack (12). One sachet (30) is releasably attached to an upper back wall portion (36) of one pack (12) and other sachet (30) is releasably attached to a lower back wall portion (38) of the other pack (12) of the pair. A promotional pouch of smokeless tobacco (34) is inside each sachet (30). Pairs of such packs (12) fit within standard size cartons (10). Each pack (12) and the attached sachet (30) may include overwrap material (50).
Abstract:
Abstract:
An in-line insert folder system includes a continuous roll of preprinted inserts, and a cutter for cutting individual inserts from the roll. A transport serially conveys the individual inserts in a downstream direction to a buckle folder that receives the inserts and folds each one along at least one fold line. An applicator serially receives the folded inserts from the buckle folder and applies the inserts to consumer packs such as cigarette packs, for example. The folded inserts may be directly applied to the packs before placement of flexible outer wrap or the folded inserts may be applied onto the flexible outer wrap before that wrap is placed around the packs.
