Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a cigarette sending a flavored tobacco response to a smoker with heat generated by an electric heater by providing a tobacco flavoring material inside of a cylindrical carrier forming a cavity between the tips and heating an outer surface by the electric heater. CONSTITUTION: A tobacco web 57 consists of a cylindrical carrier 59 supporting the tobacco flavored material 61 to wind around a back flow filter 63 and a free flow filter 65. An overlapping paper 69 is wound onto the outside to allow the carrier and the tobacco flavored material to cross a current toward in the cavity at the time of heating by the electric heater. The cigarette 23 is desirably provided with a cylindrical mouth piece filter 71 and a free flow filter 73.

Abstract: This invention relates to a heat source comprising metal carbide and a method for preparing the same using a reducing/carbidizing atmosphere. The metal carbide heat sources of this invention have ignition temperatures that are substantially lower than conventional carbon particles normally used in carbonaceous heat sources, while at the same time provide sufficient heat to release a flavored aerosol from a flavor bed for inhalation by the smoker. Upon combustion, the heat sources produce substantially no carbon monoxide.
