Abstract: A method and apparatus for coordinating the time at which a mobile station (5) performs searches for alternative systems to which a hard handoff will occur. In one system which includes the present invention, the mobile station (5) receives a command which instructs the mobile station (5) as to when to tune to alternative frequencies in order to search for indications of the presence of an alternative system. In another system which includes the present invention, predetermined times are defined with respect to a reference point in time that is common to both an origination base station (10) and a mobile station (5). The mobile station (5) tunes to alternative frequencies to perform searches only during these predetermined times. In addition, the mobile station (5) coordinates the transmission of reports which indicate the results of searches for alternative systems such that these reports are only transmitted from the mobile station (5) when the mobile station (5) is tuned to the origination frequency.

Abstract: A method for generating a higher rate channel using a set of N lower rate channels, the method comprises generating a set of N sinusoids having a corresponding set of N phase offsets with predetermined phase rotations; upconverting said set of N lower rate channels using said set of N sinusoids and phase offsets yielding a set of upconverted signals; summing said set of upconverted signals yielding a summed signal whereby the peak-to-average amplitude of said summed signal is reduced based on said phase rotations; and transmitting said summed signal. A corresponding system is also disclosed.

Abstract: Procedimiento para generar un canal de tasa de transferencia elevada utilizando un conjunto de N canales de tasa de transferencia inferior, comprendiendo el procedimiento: generar un conjunto de N sinusoides que tienen un conjunto de N sinusoides que tienen un conjunto correspondiente de N desfases , en el cual los N desfases son iguales a un conjuntos de valores de i/*180 grados, donde i es un índice de 0 a N-1; generar un segundo conjunto de N sinuoides que tienen un segundo conjunto correspondiente de N desfases que se desfasan en 90 grados respecto a dicho primer conjunto de sinusoides; convertir por elevación el conjunto de N canales de tasa de transferencia inferior utilizando el primer conjunto de N sinuoides y el segundo conjunto de N sinusoides para obtener un conjunto de señales convertidas por elevación, en el cual la etapa de conversión por elevación utiliza elprimer conjunto de N sinusoides para una componente en fase de cada uno de los canales del conjunto de N canales de tasa de transferencia inferior y utiliza la segunda componente de N sinusoides para una componente en cuadratura de fase de cada uno de los N canales de tasa de transferencia inferior; sumar el conjunto de señales convertidas por elevación para obtener una señal sumada; y transmitir la señal añadida.
