    Abstract: An image capture device that includes an adjustment circuit configured to monitor image parameters, generate updated image settings for the image capture device in response to the monitored image parameters, and transmit the updated image settings to one or more processors. The updated image settings configure the one or more processors to determine whether to transition the image capture device from a dynamic scene mode to a static scene mode based on a first image parameter included in the monitored image parameters, wherein the first image parameter is different from a second image parameter used to determine to transition the image capture device from the static scene mode to the dynamic scene mode, and to suspend generation of all or less than all of the updated image settings in response to determining to transition the image capture device from the dynamic scene mode to the static scene mode.

The method may comprise selecting an entry from a lookup table (LUT) having entries generated as an inverse function of an index B, wherein B defines a range of values that includes every DC scalar value and every quantization parameter associated with a coding standard, and calculating A // B for coding according to the coding standard based on values A, B1 and B2, wherein B1 and B2 comprise high and low portions of the selected entry of the LUT. The techniques may simplify digital signal processor (DSP) implementations of video coders, and are specifically useful for MPEG-4 coders and possibly others.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for eighth-rate random number generation for speech coders includes a random number generator configured to generate values of a first random variable. The lookup table is used to store values of a second random variable. The lookup table is addressed with the values of the first random variable. The second random variable is an inverse transform of a cumulative distribution function of the first random variable. A codec encodes input silence frames with the values of the first and second random variables, and regenerates the silence frames with the values of the first and second random variables. The speech coder may be an enhanced variable rate coder, and the silence frames may be encoded at eighth rate. The random variables are advantageously Gaussian random variables with values that are uniformly distributed between zero and one.
