Abstract: Certain examples described herein relate to acoustic detection mask systems and/or methods. In certain examples, an acoustic detection mask system is provided. An example acoustic detection mask system includes a mask having a microphone located therein or thereon. The microphone is connected to a data logger that is configured to capture vibrations and/or sounds registered by the microphone. The data logger may store such information in a computer readable storage media thereof for subsequent analysis, e.g., via a computer program accessing such data after the data logger is connected to a separate computer system. The microphone may be positioned and the data analyzed so as to determine differences between oral and nasal breathing, as well as sleep-disordered breath and/or snoring. Such components may be provided as a part of a system or in any suitable combination or sub-combination. Associated methods also are described herein as a part of the technology.

Abstract: A therapy system configured to wash out or flush out the oral and/or nasal cavity to reduce the effective dead space and reduce the work of breathing. The system may displace the expired air in the oral and/or nasal cavity with atmospheric air, or air with altered concentrations, for example, increased humidity, or oxygen levels. A sealed oral interface is provided to the mouth of a patient to supply a volume of pressurized gas. A control system to synchronize the supply of pressurized gas with the patients respiratory cycle. The supply of respiratory gas may be provided during only a portion of the respiratory cycle.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus provide acoustic detection for automated devices such as respiratory treatment apparatus. In some embodiments of the technology, acoustic analysis of noise or sound pulses, such as a cepstrum analysis, based on signals of a sound sensor (104) permits detection of obstruction (0) such as within a patient interface, mask or respiratory conduit (108) or within patient respiratory system. Some embodiments further permit detection of accessories such as an identification thereof or a condition of use thereof, such as a leak. Still further embodiments of the technology permit the detection of a patient or user who is intended to use the automated device. C-)J 0o (D Z3 w 0) (D ~ U U-U

Abstract: A respiratory treatment exchange having an exhalation conduit (104) with a valve (318) which controls the flow of gas between the interior of the conduit and the atmosphere. The valve can comprise a flexible or pivotal cover (2185) which blocks an aperture in the exhalation conduit. The cover is biased or tensioned towards a closed position such that a differential pressure is required to actuate the valve and allow air to pass through the aperture. The vent may be configured to require a positive pressure in the exhalation conduit before it actuates and vents the air to the atmosphere (HPVE side). The valve may further have a configuration (LPVE side) which allows air to flow from the atmosphere into the exhalation conduit when a sufficient negative pressure is formed in the exhalation conduit.

Abstract: A patient interface for sealed delivery of a flow of air to ameliorate sleep disordered breathing may include: a seal-forming structure to form a pneumatic seal with the entrance to the patient’s airways; a positioning and stabilising structure to maintain the seal-forming structure in sealing contact with an area surrounding the entrance to the patient’s airways; a plenum chamber pressurised at a pressure above ambient pressure in use; a connection port for the delivery of the flow of breathable gas into the patient interface; and a device positioned within a breathing chamber defined, at least in part, by the seal-forming structure and the plenum chamber, wherein the device divides the breathing chamber into a posterior chamber and an anterior chamber, and wherein the device comprises a plurality of apertures such that turbulence of the air in the posterior chamber is less than turbulence in the air in the anterior chamber.

Abstract: Disclosed is a conduit comprising a first channel (102) and a second channel (104) where the first channel is configured to conduct an inspiratory gas and the second channel is configured to conduct an expiratory gas. An exchanger is positioned along the first channel and the second channel to separate the first channel and the second channel. The exchanger is configured to transfer a component (e.g. temperature or humidity) of the gas of the second channel to the gas of the first channel. The exchanger can have a folded surface having multiple folds (1070) and can be held between two halves (101-T, 101-B) of a respiratory treatment conduit. The crease(s) (1072) of the fold(s) can run parallel to the flow path of the conduit. The multiple folds act to increase the surface area of the exchanger with respect to the cross-sectional area of the conduit.
