Abstract: PURPOSE:To directly and continuously measure the variation in the amount of hemoglobin in blood of the principal tissue of a living body from the living body, by measuring the change in the absorbancies of two wavelengths selected in a wavelength region where only the absorbancy change caused by hemoglobin is generated. CONSTITUTION:In a wavelength region where only the change in absorbancy caused by hemoglobin is substantially generated, two specific different wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 are selected and lights having these wavelengths are allowed to directly irradiate the tissue of a living body to measure absorbancy changes DELTAA1, DELTAA2 with respect to the respective wavelengths. On the basis of these absorbancy changes DELTAA1, DELTAA2, absorptivity coefficient k1 preliminarily obtained by a specific wavelength, the absorptivity coefficient k1' of oxygenation type hemoglobin at a wavelength lambda1, the absorptivity coefficient k2 of deoxygenation type hemoglobin at the wavelength lambda1, the absorptivity coefficient k2' of oxygenation type hemoglobin at a wavelength lambda2, the absorptivity coefficient of deoxygenation type hemoglobin at the wavelength lambda2 and absorptivity coefficient k3 at the isosbestic point (wavelength lambda3) of oxygenation and deoxygenation hemoglobins, the variation in the amounts of oxygenation and deoxygenation type hemoglobins and/or the variation in the amount of total hemoglobin is measured.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide measurability with no confinement on the selected wave- length by using a light in the near infrared region, in which change in the photo-absorptiveness associate with oxygenation/deoxygenation of hemoglobin and change in the photo-absorptiveness associate with varying oxidation/ reduction condition of cytochrome oxidase occur simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:In a measuring system 24, the light having two different groups of wave-lengths in the near infrared range is projected to a vital body structure, and change in the photo-absorptiveness is measured in each wave-length. A CPU 6 calculates variation in the hemoglobin quantity on the assumption that change in the photo-absorptiveness are all dependent upon oxygenation/ deoxygenation of the hemoglobin for every group of wave-lengths. The varying amount of cytochrome oxidase is measured from the difference in calculation values of hemoglobin quantity change between the two groups of wave-lengths. Thus the oxidation/reduction condition of cytochrome oxidase is determined, and the measurement on the cytochrome oxidase having less change in photo- absorptiveness than hemoglobin can be performed without attack or erosion, wherein no confinement is given from the selection of light source wave-length.

Namely, the fluctuation in the respective quantities of the oxidation type Hb and the deoxidation type Hb and/or the fluctuation in the total Hb quantity in the optical path for irradiation is directly and continuously measured.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To measure reflected light from optional depth in a body to be measured by simple constitution by sampling the reflected light from the body to be measured by using an optical shutter which is opened and closed at the timing of reference light. CONSTITUTION:When pulse light is emitted by a laser light source 2, only straight reflected light in the depth direction of the body 3 to be measured is selected on a reflection light path B by a 1st and 2nd slits 13 and 14 and sent to an optical shutter 18 through a fiber 16. This reflected light contains plural reflected light pulses Pa1, Pa2, Pa3... which are different in time according to the depth of the body 3 to be measured. Pulse light passed through a reference light path A, on the other hand, is transduced by a driving means 4 into an electric signal Pb to drive the shutter 18. Reflected light PaN from the optical path B which is selected by the shutter 18 is outputted to a photodetector 5. A mirror 11 adjusts the length of the reference optical path and this mirror 11 is moved to a side (a) or B to adjust the opening/closing timing of the shutter 18.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable quantitative measurement even when an object to be measured has a foreign matter possibly absorbing or scattering light beside a substance to be determined, by measuring changes in the absorbance of light with several wavelengths before and after the state of the object to be inspected changes. CONSTITUTION:Light with the intensity I0 is made incident on an object to be inspected such as living thing and the intensity I of the transmission light is measured to calculate absorbance A=logI0/I. Here, when a layer containing no desired substance in the object being inspected is represented by S, the desired substance in a tissue H containing the substance being represented by L and a remaining substrate left after the extraction of the desired substance L from the tissue H being represented by B, only the amount of the desired substance L in the object being inspected is varied to measure the absorbance again and thus, a variation DELTAA in the absorbance before the change is determined. A plurality of changes DELTAA are determined using lights with varying wavelengths to calculate the rate of change in the desired substance thereby enabling the quantitative determining of the desired substance L.
