Abstract: PURPOSE: To attain reading at various angular positions within a visual filed by image-forming the visual field including a symbol to read on the array of an optical detector, transferring the array image to a memory array, scanning the memory array and reading a bar code. CONSTITUTION: A bar code reader illuminates the visual field 11 through a lens device 145 by means of a light source 14. Then the reader optically image- forms the bar code symbol 10 of the side of the visual field 11 on a photosensitive array 12 consisting of CCD by using an optical device 13. Next the reader transfers the binary display of light illuminated on the CCD array 12 to video RAM 20. CPU 35 access to bit map image data within video RAM 20, scans/ decodes the image of the visual field 11, finds the bar code data symbol 10 and translate the code. A row and a column are address-specified by a linear pattern tilt-arranged concerning the row and the column of the memory array at this time so that reading at various angular position within the visual field is attained.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To miniaturize a device by converting light of variable intensity reflected from a marker to an electric analog signal by a sensor means and converting this signal to a digital signal to transmit it. CONSTITUTION: Conical light condensed in a head 10 by a condenser mirror 19a passes a laser light-transmissive member along an optical path 21b and is reflected by the sensor means, for example, a photosensor 17. A signal processing means on a circuit board 16 processes the electric analog signal generated by the sensor 17 to generate a digitized video signal. This signal is sent to a decoding/control means 101 through a cable 15. Thus, the device is miniaturized.
