Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the reliability of a laser scanner for reading a bar code symbol by increasing the small amplitude of high frequency component of an analog signal while using a reinforcing means in order to reinforce the modulation of the analog signal. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with light guiding means 33 and 34 for guiding light to a display in order to reflect the light, a means 19b for scanning the display along a scanning direction with sampling aperture larger than the width of one narrow element at least having a dimension along the scanning direction, a detecting means 17 for generating a modulation degraded analog electric signal having the high frequency component of small amplitude corresponding to a narrow element and the low frequency component of large amplitude corresponding to a wide element by detecting the beams having various values of strength reflected from the display along the scanning direction, and the reinforcing means for converting that signal to a modulation reinforced analog electric signal having the low frequency component and high frequency component mutually making much closer the values of large and small amplitudes by amplifying the modulation degraded electric signal. Thus, the modulation degraded analog signal can be read well and the reliability of the scanner can be improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To make it possible to read a symbol without using an optical targeting mechanism by visually observing a laser beam with increased visibility, and by positioning this laser beam on a symbol desired to be read over a range of operating distance wider than the head. CONSTITUTION: In order to increase the visibility of a laser beam radiated by a diode 33, the magnitude of a focusing lens 32 is increased to an extent around ×45-×50, an aperture diaphragm 45 is enlarged, and the laser scanner is operated without compensating astigmatic characteristics in such a state that the diode 33 has such astigmatic characteristics. The operator visually observes a laser beam with increased visibility, and positions this laser beam on a symbol desired to be read over a work distance range long extended to housings 12a and 12b. With that, the laser scanner can read a symbol without using any optical targeting mechanism.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To use this device in various modes such as hand holding and arm holding by constituting a scanning module by fixing constituting members except a mirror to a common assembly, and fixing it to each kind of housing so as to be converted. CONSTITUTION: A scanner 10 is provided with a hand type housing 12 whose inside part is divided into an upper half 16 and a lower half 18 by a base 14. A high speed scanning motor 20 is set on the base 14, an U-shaped supporting body 26 is fixed to an output axial part 22 instead of a plane mirror, a laser 1 optical part assembly 28 is fixed to the supporting body 26, and the assembly 28 and the supporting body 26 are shaken and rotated altogether by the axial part 22. The assembly 28 is provided with a hollow slender tube 30, laser diode 32 fixed to one end, lens barrel 34 fixed to the other end, and focusing lens held in the lens barrel 34. An opening through-diaphragm is provided at the end wall of the lens barrel 34, and the lens barrel 34 is fixed in nest type so as to be moved in a vertical direction in the tube 30.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To minimize power consumption during the scanning with scanner by irradiating a display, which is provided with parts having different light reflection rates, with light and scanning the display by converging reflected beams returned from the display. CONSTITUTION: A scanning component 20 supported by a holder means 30 is provided, and the scanning component 20 is supported by the holder means 30 so as to be mutually vibrated in a peripheral direction between both scanning end positions around one axial line. The holder means is operated for always returning the scanning component to a standstill position between both the scanning end positions. Then, a read starting means is provided for moving the scanning component 20 in a peripheral direction from the standstill position to one scanning end position. Thus, scanning structure for scanning a bar code symbol with a little power consumption can be provided.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an improved ergonomics-design hand-held data inputting terminal device for reading such a display as the bar code symbol. CONSTITUTION: A hand-held data inputting terminal device 10 is provided with a housing 12 and a scanning head 18 which is attached to the housing 12 so that the head 18 can make pivoting motions at least between first and second reading positions. During operation, the head 18 optically scans an encoded symbol and, at the same time, detects the light reflected from the encoded symbol while the head 18 is at the first or second reading position. The user of the terminal device 10 can use either one of first and second trigger switches attached to the housing 12 as a scanning head actuating switch and the other trigger switch as a shift key for deciding the form of characters inputted from alphanumeric data inputting keys on a key pad 16 fitted to the housing 12 together with an LCD display 14.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a bar code scanning optical scanner and a focal depth expanding method capable of expanding the depth of a focus by using multi- focus distance collecting optical system. CONSTITUTION: The optical scanner is provided with a means for generating a radiation beam for the irradiation of a visual field, the multi-focus distance collecting optical system having at least a 1st lens with a short focal distance and a 2nd lens with a long focal distance and a photodetector 20 for detecting radiation light reflected from the visual field and guided by the optical system and generating an electric output signal and allowed to improve the depth of signal modulation by connecting a high pass filter to the electric output signal of the photodetector 20 so as to pass an electric output signal generated by the detection of a bar code but to filter and remove a DC background electric signal. Thereby it is unnecessary to substantially and directly bring a reader into contact with a code or arrange the reader on the code in order to suitably read out the code because the depth of a focus in a conventional reader especially using an LED/CCD as a base is shallow.

CONSTITUTION: In several practical examples, a piezoelectric bimorph element 28 is used for the scanning function of the reader or the varifocal zoom function of an optical system. In several practical examples, >=1 piezoelectric bimorph element 28 fitted having one end fixed supports an assembly of a scanning mirror, a focusing lens, a laser diode, or the laser diode 20 and a limit aperture 24 at its free end, and drives them to make the reader scan. Further, the beam deflector for the bar code reader optical system controls the varifocal zoom lens system of the reader by >=1 piezoelectric bimorph element having one end fixed.
