Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the synthesis, screening and characterization of an organic metal compound and a catalyst (for example, a homogeneous catalyst). SOLUTION: A method for producing an array of an activated metal ligand compound comprises (a) a process for forming the first metal ligand compound in the first region on a substrate and forming the second metal ligand compound different from the first metal ligand compound in the second region on the substrate to form the arrays of the metal ligand compounds in the prescribed regions of the substrate at a space, and (b) a process for supplying one or more activating substances comprising ionizing agents or alkylating agents to the first region and the second region.

SOLUTION: A method for producing an array of a carried metal ligand compound, which enables the measurement of at least one change of a ligand core, the identity of the substituent of the ligand core, the electric charge of a metal ion, a counter ion, an activating substance, reaction conditions, a solvent, additives, and a linker, comprises disposing the first metal ligand compound and the second metal ligand compound different from the first metal ligand compound, carried on a carrier different from the substrate, thus forming the combinatorial array of the metal ligand compounds carried at a space.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for synthesizing a library of an organometallic material and screening the library in regard to catalytic activity. SOLUTION: This method for producing an array of a metal-ligand compound and screening comprises (a) synthesizing an array of spatially separated ligands, (b) preparing the array of metal-ligand compounds by feeding a suitable metal precursor to each of the elements of the array of ligands, (c) selectively activating the array of metal-ligand compounds with a suitable co-catalyst, (d) modifying the array of metal-ligand compounds with a third component, (e) screening the array of metal-ligand compounds in regard to useful characteristics by using a parallel or rapid serial screening method selected from a group consisting of an optical imaging, an optical spectroscopy, a mass spectroscopy, a chromatography, a sonic imaging, a sonic spectroscopy, an infrared imaging and an infrared spectroscopy.
