Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive material with which a film having a little heat contraction, excellent planeness, and low cleaving property can be obtained without increasing the cost and problems such as contraction, curling, slacking, and cleaving do not occur also in OHP and electric insulating material. CONSTITUTION: In a biaxially oriented film consisting of polyester, a heat contraction factor of the film at 190 deg.C for 20 minutes in the direction of machine is 1.0% or below and 0.3% or below at 150 deg.C for 30 minutes, and a surface crystal size by wide angle X-ray diffraction (hereinafter called X-ray) is 60-80 angstram.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a biaxially drawn polyester film for magnetic recording medium, containing a polyester composed mainly of polyethylene terephthalate and a specific polymer component, resistant to creep and having low heat- shrinkage and excellent dimensional stability. CONSTITUTION:(A) 75-99 pts.wt., preferably 80-95 pts.wt. of a polyester composed mainly of polyethylene terephthalate and (B) 1-25 pts.wt. of a polymer component of formula I (m is 0-60; n is 40-100; m+n=100) are supplied to an extruder, extruded through a slit die in molten state and solidified by cooling to obtain an undrawn film. The film is biaxially drawn and, as necessary after redrawing, heat-treated to obtain the objective film having a crystal size of 30-65Angstrom , preferably 35-60Angstrom (determined by X-ray) and satisfying the formulas II-IV wherein d(mum) is film thickness, G2*(Newton/m ) is longitudinal creep deformation coefficient and 'b(%) is heat-shrinkage ratio in longitudinal direction at 70 deg.C.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a biaxially stretched PE terephthalate film which has small shrinkage and is hardly susceptible to deformation strain when exposed to a high temp. by specifying the strain modulus and thermal shrinkage in the longitudinal direction of the film and specifying the axial orientation ratio thereof. CONSTITUTION:The strain modulus G2 (Newton/square meter) in the longitudinal direction of the biaxially stretched PE terephthalate film having a thickness (d) (micronmeter) and the thermal shrinkage sigmab(%) in the longitudinal direction of the film are specified to (1.84-sigmab)dG2>=1.48X10 , 1 0 and the axial orientation ratio thereof is specified to >=1.5, >=3.0. The polyester of the biaxially stretched polyester film may be any polyester as far as said polyester consists essentially of linear polyester. A substantial decease in the magnetic recording density is resulted and is undesirable if the thickness (d) exceeds 15mum. The polyester film no longer functions as the supporting film for the magnetic recording medium with the dynamic characteristics there of if the (d) is below 1mum.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester film excellent in low heat shrinkability and prevented from the deterioration of flatness at the time of pressure feed accompanied by thermal softening by setting the heat shrinkage factors in the longitudinal and lateral directions of the film to a specific ratio and setting the penetration distance of a pin at a time when the pin is pressed to the film under a specific condition to specific % or less of the thickness of the film. CONSTITUTION: The heat shrinkage factors in the longitudinal and lateral directions of a film are 0.3% or less and, when a pin with a leading end diameter of 0.8mm is pressed to the film under such a condition that pressure load is 10g and a temp. rising speed is 5 deg.C/min, the penetration start temp. of the pin to the film is 115 deg.C or higher and the penetration distance of the pin is set to 8% or less of the thickness of the film. This film is subjected to high temp. heat treatment for imparting low heat shrinkabillty, flatness and thermal softening resistance but, in the case of polyethylene terephthalate, rapid temp. rising short-time treatment is performed at 225-255 deg.C. After the film is cooled to about 210 deg.C or lower under tension, the film is pref. subjected to relax treatment because relaxation of molecular orientation can be suppressed and thermal softening resistance is imparted.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To contrive a reduction in dropout of a video tape where a magnetic layer is provided on a film and prevention of clogging of a magnetic head, by optimizing shock-resistant strength and tearing strength of the film. CONSTITUTION:Suitable raw materials of polyethylene terephthalate film is manufactured by adding fine particles non-soluble in the system and precipitating particles having at least a kind of alkal metals or alkaline earth metals as its part of constitutent ingredient. Sufficient vacuum drying and melt extrusion of the obtained PET raw materials are performed, a molten polymer is filtered, molded into a sheetlike state with a mouthpiece and an unoriented sheet is manufactured by cooling and solidifying the same. Then the film is heat-treated. After cooling of the heat-treated film to some extent, the same is cooled gradually down to a room temperature, and a biaxially oriented PET film is obtained.
