    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a copolyester of high elastic modulus and flexural and impact strength, constituted by structural components, i.e., a specific proportion of ethylene-1,2-bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylate unit and ethylene-4, 4'-diphenyl dicarboxylate one. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolyester constituted, as chief structural units, by (A) 21-75 (pref. 25-70) mol% of polyethylene-1,2-bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane- 4,4'-dicarboxylate unit of formula I and (B) 79-25 (pref. 75-30) mol% of ethylene-4,4'-diphenyl carboxylate unit of formula II can be obtained by polycondensation through either direct polycondensation or ester interchange process between (1) 1,2-bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (ester), (2) 4,4'- diphenyl dicarboxylic acid (ester) and (3) ethylene glycol. Said copolyester has an intrinsic viscosity 0.3-1.5 in orthochlorophenol at 25 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a copolymerized polyester containing specific copolymer components, having extremely stable crystallinity and melting point, and capable of forming fibers and films, etc. having excellent heat resistance and flame retardance by melt spinning or melt film-forming. CONSTITUTION:A melt-moldable polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.3- 1.4 and composed mainly of the structural units of formula I and formula II (n is 2, 4 or 6). The unit of formula I can be produced by the polycondensation of alpha,beta- bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and/or its ester-forming derivative with an alkylene glycol, and the unit of formula II can be produced by the polycondensation of alpha,beta-bis(2-bromophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and/or its ester-forming derivative with an alkylene glycol. The content of the unit of formula II in the copolymer is preferably 1-99mol%, especially 10-90mol%.
