    Abstract: PURPOSE:An inorganic film having toughness, flexibility and heat resistance, prepared by mixing an inorganic layered compound with a polar, linear, high- molecular compound. CONSTITUTION:An inorganic layered compound of formulaI(wherein W is an interlayer ion such as Li, Na or Pb ion, X is an ion of Mg, Fe, Al or the like, Y is an ion of Si, Al or the like, and Z is an ion of F or OH), e.g., clay or mica mineral (e.g., a compound of formula II), is swollen in water to form a suspension of about 1-20wt% concentration. Then, a polar high-molecular compound with polymerization degree >= about 100, e.g., polyvinyl alcohol, is added to the above suspension in an amount of 1-30wt% based on the inorganic layered compound. The resulting suspension is spread on a releasable base (metal plate, glass plate), dried and released to form an inorganic film.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film with a high Young's modulus and a better dimensional stability without degrading the heat treatability by performing a biaxial drawing and a heat treatment of an unstretched film of polyester having ethylene alpha,beta-bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane 4,4'-dicaboxylate as main repeated unit on a specified condition. CONSTITUTION:An unstretched film produced by extruding material with an melt extruder and cooling to harden it is oriented biaxially by biaxial drawing. In this case, it is necessary that the length-wise draw factor (a) and the width- wise draw factor beta should meet the formulas (1) and (2). The biaxially oriented film thus obtained is heat treated immediately. The heat treating temperature must be 225-260 deg.C, preferably 230-250 deg.C. It is necessary that an elongation should be given only in one way at the rate of 6-50%, preferably, 7-40% as against the original length in the heat treatment.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which has good extrusion stability and gives modings having well-balanced properties between mechanical properties, heat resistance, appearance, etc., by blending an arylene sulfide resin with a specified polyester. CONSTITUTION:5-95pts.wt. polyethylene-1,2-bis-(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4-dicarboxylate having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.3-1.2 is melt-kneaded with 95- 5pts.wt. polyarylene sulfide having an MW of 10,000 or above at 280-320 deg.C in an extruder. The mixture is then pelletized.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a sol of an inorg.-org. composite body with superior stability and flowability for a film with superior heat resistance and toughness by combining limitedly swellable mica having a specified composition contg. fluorine wit org. molecules. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic melt of limitedly swellable mica contg. fluorine is converted into hydrated fine particles by a known method such as immersion in water or weathering in steam, and the particles are reacted with org. cations from alkylamine or the like in an aqueous soln. of 1-6 pH. After carrying out ion exchange, the residual org. cations and Na are removed, and the resulting sol-like org.-inorg. composite body holding a large amount of water between laminae is cleaved with a mixer or the like until a sol having >=10cps viscosity measured with a rotational viscometer is prepd. Thus, a sol contg. settleable particles having 0.1-15mum average particle size and a composition represented by formula 1 is obtd. When a 1-20% soln. of the sol is spread on a substrate with lubricity in a uniform thickness by casting or spraying, a tough film for electric insulation or other use is manufactured.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a copolyester of high elastic modulus and flexural and impact strength, constituted by structural components, i.e., a specific proportion of ethylene-1,2-bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylate unit and ethylene-4, 4'-diphenyl dicarboxylate one. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolyester constituted, as chief structural units, by (A) 21-75 (pref. 25-70) mol% of polyethylene-1,2-bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane- 4,4'-dicarboxylate unit of formula I and (B) 79-25 (pref. 75-30) mol% of ethylene-4,4'-diphenyl carboxylate unit of formula II can be obtained by polycondensation through either direct polycondensation or ester interchange process between (1) 1,2-bis(2-chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (ester), (2) 4,4'- diphenyl dicarboxylic acid (ester) and (3) ethylene glycol. Said copolyester has an intrinsic viscosity 0.3-1.5 in orthochlorophenol at 25 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled base film for a magnetic tape having excellent traveling property and S/N in spite of its thin thickness by using a film consisting of a polyester contg. speified repeating units in a specified ratio and specified synthesized inorganic particles and having a water content and a thermal expansion coefficient in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:0.005-0.15wt% inorganic particles not containing impurities and coarse particles and obtained by synthesizing an oxide contg. elements of IIA, IIIB, and IV groups in the periodic table or the inorganic salts such as CaCO3, Al2O3, SiO2, and ZrO2 are incorporated into a polymer contg. >=50mol% repeating units expressed by the formula to obtain the film which is biaxially oriented. The film having 0.02-0.50wt% water content and a thermal expansion coefficient in the range of 1.6X10 -4.0X10 mm./mm.. deg.C in the width-wise direction is obtained. The film is used as the base film for the metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium, and the magnetic recording medium having an excellent traveling property and small curls and not generating any dropouts in the absence of coating can be obtained.
