The composition is suitable for providing moulded articles of liquid crystalline resin.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a liquid crystalline resin compound which comprises 100 pbw of liquid crystalline resin and 5-200 pbw of inorganic filler, said liquid crystalline resin being composed of 99.5-50 wt% of partially aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin and 0.5-50 wt% of wholly aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin, and said inorganic filler having an average aspect ratio in the range of 3 to 25. Disclosed also herein is a molded article of liquid crystalline resin obtained by molding from said liquid crystalline resin compound. The resin compound is superior in flowability and the molded article has good mechanical properties, especially balanced rigidity and toughness.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a liquid crystal resin pellet of which the discharge-stability is increased. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal resin under a molten state is discharged in a trough wherein cooling water is made to flow, by a discharging device as a strand group. Then, the strand group is solidified by cooling, and cut under the existence of the cooling water for this manufacturing method for pellets. In this manufacturing method, at least in the discharge initial stage from when the strand group is discharged from the discharging device to when the strand group reaches a cutter section, an amount of the cooling water, which is from 1.1 times to 10 times based on the amount of the cooling water at the normal pellet-forming time is made to flow into the trough.

SOLUTION: There is provided an apparatus for polymerizing a liquid crystal resin comprising a reactor 11 equipped with a feed port of a raw material, a transporting port, a stirring apparatus and a jacket, a reactor equipped with a transporting port, a polymer delivery port, a stirring apparatus and a jacket, a transporting pipe connecting these and a baffle plate 2 on the sidewall inside a reactor, the baffle being 5-30% in size based on the inside diameter of the reactor in the direction of the inside diameter of the reactor. The method for preparing the liquid crystal resin utilizes the above apparatus.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the color tone, mechanical properties and appearance of a molding by using a p-hydroxybenzpoic acid of a specified bulk density in loosened state for producing a specified liquid-crystal polyester or polyester- amide resin. CONSTITUTION: A p-hydroxybenzoic acid with a bulk density in loosened state of 0.30-0.57g/cm and a weight-mean particle diameter of 0.17-2mm is used for producing a liquid-crystal polyester(-amide) resin consisting essentially of the structural units of the formula. The production process follows a usual method of polycondensation of polyester(-amide). For example, the p-hydroxybenzoic acid, an aromatic dihydroxy compound, a polyester polymer, an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, acetic anhydride, etc., are subjected to acetylation at 50-200 deg.C, and the temperature is then raised to 200-350 deg.C to effect deacetylating polymerization under a reduced pressure to give a liquid-crystal resin. 100 pts.wt. of this resin in mixed with 0-200 pts.wt. filler and 0.5-30 pts.wt. flame retardant comprising an organic bromine compound to give a resin composition.

(Tm, deg.C) satisfying formula VII, a logarithmic viscosity in the melting range of 30 deg.C or narrower (measured by differential calorimetry) of 1.0-3.0dl/g, and a difference between the flowing start temp. and the melting completion temp. (obtd. from the temp. dependence curve of the complex viscosity) of 25 deg.C or lower.
