    Abstract: A biaxially oriented polyester film which is well balanced between sliding properties and transparency and having an enhanced uniformity in thickness is prepared by a process wherein a polyester, predominantly comprised of polyethylene terephthalate, is extruded into a sheet form extrudate; the extrudate is quenched to a temperature of below Tg to obtain a solidified, substantially amorphous film; the film is drawn in the longitudinal direction at a drawing ratio of larger than 2.4 but smaller than 6.5; the film is quenched; and then, the film is drawn in the transverse direction at a drawing ratio of at least 2.5. The drawing in the longitudinal direction is carried out in two steps wherein: (i) in the first drawing step, the substantially amorphous film is drawn in one or more stages at a total drawing zone length (l1) of at least 50 mm so that the resulting polyester film possesses a birefringence of 1x10-3 to 12x10-3; (ii) the drawn film is kept, without being quenched to a temperature of not higher than the Tg, in contact with a roll maintained at 100 DEG to 130 DEG C.; and then, (iii) in the second drawing step, the film is drawn at a drawing ratio of larger than 1.6 but smaller than 2.7 in one stage at a drawing zone length of shorter than l1/2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform higher density recording by utilizing high picture quality of a metal thin film magnetic recording medium and high strength, high heat resistant characteristics of fundamental characteristics of polyethylene-2,6- naphthalate. CONSTITUTION:A biaxially oriented composite film has a layer A made of polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate containing germanium compound and magnesium compound, and a layer B made of polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate containing inactive solid fine particles and laminated on the layer A. The layer A is covered with a coating film in which a discontinuous film or fine particles having a mean particle size of 3nm or more or both exist in such a manner that its surface roughness is 5nm or less. The layer B is formed of polyethylene-2,6- naphthalate containing 0.001-1wt.% of particles having mean particle size of 0.1-0.5mum and a biaxially oriented composite polyethylene naphthalate film for a metal thin film magnetic recording medium has a surface having surface roughness of 25nm or less.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce thickness unevenness of a thermoplastic resin film, by reducing a sound wave which causes the thickness unevenness in the neighborhood of a nozzle when the thermoplastic resin film is prepared. CONSTITUTION:An undrawn film is obtained by heating and melting a thermoplastic resin above the m.p., extruding it from a nozzle into a film-shape and charging preferably an electrostatic charge on the film to tightly adhere it on a cooling drum. It is essential to keep a level of a sound pressure at a definite value or less in the neighborhood of the nozzle, when this undrawn film is prepared. Namely, the film preparation is carried out in such a condition that every sound pressure level of 1/3 octave central frequency is kept at 75dB or lower for the sound at 50Hz or lower, every sound pressure level of 1/3 octave central frequency is kept at 80dB or lower for the sound in the range of 50Hz-200Hz, and every sound pressure level of 1/3 octave central frequency is kept at 85dB or lower for the sound in the range of 200Hz-1,000Hz, thereby to obtain a thermoplastic resin film having less uneven thickness.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate film for digital video tapes which shows superior running properties, good abrasion resistance at projections thereof and also superior properties without defects at the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION: This is a film for magnetic recording media mainly comprising polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate, containing organic high-molecular particles of an average particle size of 10-500nm and/or inorganic particles processed at the surfaces thereof through an organic high-molecular treatment. The ratio of the average height of surface projections and the average size of the particles is 1/6-1/2 at least at one surface of the medium. Moreover, a surface roughness RaA on a center line of one face (A side) is 5-30nm and a surface roughness RaB on a center line of the other face (B side) is 10nm or smaller.
