    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an optical resin material for plastic lens, etc., consisting of a resin containing sulfur and alpha-methylstyrene at specific amounts, being lightweight, having high refractive index and reduced in odor emitted by polishing. CONSTITUTION:The optical resin material consists of a resin containing >=10wt.% sulfur and 3-20wt.% alpha-methylstyrene. As the optical resin, a three- dimensionally cross-linked casting polymerization type methyl (meth)acrylate, etc., is preferably used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve optical characteristics, toughness, and impact strength by copolymerizing a polymerizable prepolymer obtd. by the addition reaction of two specific compsns. with a copolymerizable monomer. CONSTITUTION:50-100 wt.% compd. having two vinyl groups in the molecule and 0-50 wt.% compd. having a vinyl group in the molecule are mixed to give a compsn., which is allowed to undergo the addition reaction with a compsn. comprising at least one dithiol compd. selected from compds. of formula I and II [wherein (a) is 1-6; (b) is 0-2; X is O or S; R is substd. phenylene; (c) is 0 or 1; and (d) is 0-3] in an equivalent ratio between functional groups (CH2=CH)/(SH) of 0.5-1.5, giving a polymerizable prepolymer. The prepolymer is copolymerized with a copolymerizable monomer in the presence of an initiator at 50-140 deg.C for several hr to several tens of hr.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title resin free from optical strain, excellent in high refractive index, rigidity, hardness, heat resistance, toughness and releasability, containing a polymerizable prepolymer produced by reaction between divinylbenzene and a specific dithiol compound at a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin suitable for plastic lenses, etc., containing pref. >=10wt.% of a polymerizable prepolymer which can be produced by reaction between (A) divinylbenzene and (B) a dithiol compound of formula I (R1 is 2-12C aliphatic organic group or 6-16C aromatic group-contg. organic group) [pref. at least one of dithiols of formula II-IV (a is 2-6: b is 1-6; c is 0-2; d is 0 or 1; e is 0-3; X is 0 or S; R2 is phenylene), respectively], at the functional equivalent ratio of the vinyl group to thiol group >=1.8 (pref. 2.0-10.0).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce or deodorize the offensive smell and malodor generated when a plastic lens is cut, ground and polished by using cooling water containing an aroma imparting compound composed of a hydrocarbon compound or heterocyclic compound having a specific substituent. CONSTITUTION:There are the grinding of a curved surface (cutting and grinding) and the polishing of an end part called lens polishing for mainly setting a diopter in the grinding processing of a plastic lens. At the time of this grinding, cooling water containing one or more kind of an aroma imparting compound composed of a hydrocarbon compound or heterocyclic compound having at least one substituent selected from a hydroxyl group, an aldehyde group, a carbonyl group and an ester group in one molecule thereof is sprayed to a part to be ground. It is pref. to set the content of the aroma imparting compound to 0.001-0.01% by wt. of the cooling water. By this method, the irritant smell generated at the time of the cutting, polishing and grinding of the lens is reduced or deodorized and an aroma easy to receive is emitted to markedly improve working environment.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a lens excellent in release property and having good appearance grade even in a case based on a vinyl monomer containing an aromatic ring as an injection monomer liquid, by coating the surface of a glass mold with an organosilicon compound. CONSTITUTION:As an embodiment of an organosilicon compound used in apply ing coating treatment to the surface of a glass mold, there are an organosilane compound dimethylpolysiloxane having 1-100 repeating units or methylhydrogen polysiloxane having 1-100 repeating units, an organosilazane compound represented by hexamethylsilazane or modified silicone oil. The film thickness of the organosilicon compound layer used in applying coating treatment to the surface of the glass mold is pref. 0.1mum or more and, if said thickness thin ner than 0.1mum, the effect of this invention is not sufficient. There is no special limit in a thicker side but, with due regard to coating workability, about 30mum or less is pref.
