    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an array substrate having interlayer insulating films in which cutting in steps of conductive layers in a contact hole part is prevented, by forming a second interlayer insulating layer to have an opening penetrating to the surface of a first conductive layer and forming a second conductive layer to be connected to the first conductive layer through the opening. SOLUTION: An opening 18a is formed by patterning a second interlayer insulating layer 18. The size of the opening 18a is important for the relation of the opening formed in the first interlayer insulating layer 16. Then the substrate is heat treated to cause thermal shrinkage of the second interlayer insulating layer 18. The upper part of the opening widens to form a contact hole (C) having the inner face in a loose slope and a smoothly rounded upper edge. Further, a second conductive layer 20 is deposited. The conductive layer 20 is connected to the first conductive layer 14 through the contact hole (C). Since the contact hole (C) has a rounded edge of the opening and the loose slope of the inner face, no cutting in the steps of layers is caused.

Namely, such voltages that the effective values of the voltages impressed to the liquid crystals on the signal electrodes 102 having many on pixels on the same signal electrodes 102 and the effective values of the voltages impressed to the liquid crystals on the signal electrodes 102 having many off pixels separate from the signal electrodes 102 are made uniform are impressed to the third electrodes 102. As a result, the display unequalness of the screen occurring in the variation in the voltage impressed to the liquid crystals between plural pieces of the signal electrodes 102 is lessened or eliminated.

The plural liquid crystal molecules in the third liquid crystal layer region C are approximately parallel with each other and are twisted and arranged within the intra-surface direction of the substrates from the one substrate toward the other substrate in the non-impression of the voltage on the electrodes. The inclination of a part of the liquid crystal molecules 9a among the plural liquid crystal molecules in the third liquid crystal layer region C is arranged approximately parallel with the normal direction of the substrates. The state of the liquid crystal layer at the impression of the first voltage attains the state approximate to the bent arrangement in pi cells. The high- speed response is obtd. when the liquid crystal driving voltage is changed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate a display irregularity by shifting the output voltage of a segment driver IC in level and applying it to a segment when the output voltage level is inverted in polarity. CONSTITUTION:The cause of the display irregularity relates to the polarity inversion of the signal voltage level of the output of the segment driver IC corresponding to the nonselection voltage level of the output of a common driver IC. For the purpose, the output voltage level of the segment driver IC is shifted from specific voltage levels VDD' and V2'-V5' to VDD and V2-V5 for a specific time (e.g. 10 clocks) when the output voltage level of the segment driver IC is inverted about the nonselection voltage level of the output of the common driver IC shown by a chain line in a figure. Consequently, the influence of the polarity inversion of the voltage applied to liquid crystal upon the rounding of a driving waveform and frequency variation is compensated to eliminate the display irregularity.
