    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a phenolic compound in high selectivity by efficiently oxidizing an aromatic compound. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic compound is produced by the liquid-phase oxidization of an aromatic compound in the presence of a catalyst produced by supporting a noble metal of the group VIII and the oxide of one or more base metals selected from the groups III a, IV a, Va, VIa, VIIa, IIb, IVb and Vb of the periodic table on a carrier in a system containing a vanadium compound in dissolved state.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an efficient production method for a phenol compound highly important as e.g. an intermediate for aniline, bisphenol compounds, alkylphenol compounds and phenolic resins. CONSTITUTION:A phenol compound can be obtained by reaction of an aromatic compound either with an oxygen-contg. gas or with such oxygen-contg. gas and a hydrogen-contg. gas alternately using a catalyst which is prepared by (1) carrying on a carrier a group VIII noble metal and at least one kind of oxide of base metal selected from groups IIIa to VIIa, IIb, IVb and Vb ones followed by washing with a solution, or (2) carrying on a carrier at least one kind of oxide of base metal selected from groups IIIa to VIIa, IIb, IVb and Vb ones followed by carrying thereon a group VIII noble metal.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing phenol highly selectively by performing the oxidation of an aromatic compound by using a catalyst and also maintaining high catalyst activity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the phenol in a liquid phase by reacting the aromatic compound with oxygen and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst loading a precious metal of the group VIII of the periodic table on a carrier and a vanadium compound is characterized by reacting them with adding a β-diketone such as acetylacetone or decalin-1,8-dione to its reaction system.
