Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound by incorporating an amine compound having two or more amino groups in the molecule with a specific quantity of water, and with formaldehyde under a specific hydrogen pressure and temperature in the presence of a precious metal-based catalyst containing Pd, Pt or the like. SOLUTION: This method incorporates, in the presence of (A) a precious metal-based catalyst (e.g. Pd/C catalyst) containing at least one type of precious metal selected from the group consisting of Pd, Pt, Rh and Ru, preferably at 0.1 to 20 wt.% as the precious metal, (B) an amine compound having 2 or more amino groups in the molecule, e.g. ethylenediamine and piperazine, with (C) 0.2 to 5 times by weight of water, and then with (D) formaldehyde at a hydrogen pressure of 1 MPa (gauge) or more and reaction temperature of 60 to 200 deg.C. It is preferable for the above reactions to add 2 to 2000 ppm (as the precious metal) of the component A to the component B, and use one mole of the component (D) per one mole of the active hydrogen group in the amino group of the component B.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the subject compounds in high selectivity and in good yields by treating an amine compound in the presence of a crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst carrying an inorganic salt. CONSTITUTION:An amine compound having a group of the formula (R -R are H, 1-3C alkyl) is treated at 250-450 deg.C in the presence of a crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst which carries an inorganic salt (e.g. sodium sulfate) and which has a silica/alumina molar ratio of >=12/1. preferably (40-5000)/1 to produce the objective compound. The carrying treatment of the inorganic salt on the crystalline aluminosilicate can be performed e.g. by a method comprising impregnating the powder or molded product of the aluminosilicate with the inorganic salt or mixing the powder of the aluminosilicate with the powder of the inorganic salt when molded, before or after the calcination of the catalyst.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject compound at a low temperature for a short time and in a high selectivity by hydrolyzing a 4,4'-dihalogenobiphenyl in an aqueous solution containing an alcohol and a phase transfer catalyst such as a large cyclic polyether. CONSTITUTION:When a 4,4'-dihalogenobiphenyl (the halogen is chlorine or fluorine) is hydrolyzed with an alkali metal hydroxide in the presence of a monovalent and/or divalent copper compound in an aqueous solution containing a 1-3C monovalent alcohol, the hydrolysis reaction is performed in the presence of a compound selected from large cyclic polyethers, quaternary ammonium salt compounds and phosphonium salt compounds (namely a phase transfer catalyst, e.g. 18-crown-6, triethylammonium bromide) to provide biphenyl-4,4'-diol. The method permits to perform the hydrolysis reaction under a mild condition in a state of the reduced load of a purification process without corroding equipments, thereby being profitable.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a tetraalkoxysilane with high economical efficiency, with which an apparatus is not corroded, high selectivity of the tetraalkoxysilane is brought about, deactivation of a catalyst is suppressed, the number of repeated uses of the catalyst is increased in a batch reaction, a cost of the catalyst is reduced, operability is improved, and an amount of waste mainly originating from a degraded catalyst is reduced.SOLUTION: When the tetraalkoxysilane is produced by making silicon powder and an alkyl alcohol react with each other in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide catalyst, silicon powder including iron, aluminum and calcium with their total amount of 0.8 wt.% or less in terms of elements is used.
