Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a coating using the eddy current to determine the physical properties of the coating, and its inspection method. SOLUTION: In a manufacturing method and an inspection method, a coating is deposited to determine at least one physical property of the coating using the eddy current technology. In a detailed embodiment, an abrasive seal 20 of 0.3-0.5 in metallic volumetric ratio is attached to the inside 32 in the circumferential direction of a compressor of a gas turbine engine. An eddy current probe is positioned by a manipulator. The distance between the probe and a coating surface is measured by using the frequency of at least 1 MHz. The coating thickness is measured by determining the roll-off frequency of the complex impedance of the coating. The coating density is determined by the complex impedance of

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for forming a chromate-free corrosion resistant coating on a product from magnesium or a magnesium alloy. SOLUTION: The process for forming the coating broadly comprises a step 10 of degreasing the magnesium or magnesium alloy product, a step 12 of cleaning the product in a high alkaline cleaning solution, a step 14 of deoxidizing the product, and a step 16 of immersing the product in a coating solution for a time period of 15 minutes to 90 minutes. The solution used for forming the coating has phosphate and fluorine ions, and contains from 1.0 g/l to 5.0 g/l of an active corrosion inhibitor selected from the group consisting potassium permanganate, sodium tungstate, sodium vanadate, and mixtures thereof. The solution may also contain from 0.1 t 1.0 vol.% of a surfactant which reduces a reaction time. The solution is maintained at a temperature of 120-200°F and has a pH of 5 to 7. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a corrosion inhibiting additive which is free of calcinogenicity and is effective in suppressing corrosion to metals. SOLUTION: This non-calcinogenic corrosion inhibitor contains an anode corrosion inhibitive additive and a cathode corrosion inhibitive additive. The anode corrosion inhibitive additive is soluble in alkaline media and is, on the other hand, characterized by setting in the form of a reduced insoluble oxide under neutral and acidic reduction conditions, i.e., existing in the form of the insoluble oxide at pH (7) and below -600 mV with respect to an Ag/AgCl reference electrode and at pH 2 and below -300 mV with respect to the Ag/ AgCl reference electrode. The cathode corrosion inhibitive additive is soluble in acidic media and, on the other hand, equilibrates and changes in a direction where the corrosion inhibitor settles in the form of the insoluble oxide under neutral, alkaline and medium acidic condition, i.e., is the compound existing in the form of insoluble oxide at pH 7 and >=-300 mV with respect to the potential of the Ag/AgCl reference electrode and at pH 12 and above -900 mV with respect to the potential of the Ag/AgCl reference electrode.

Abstract: A process for electrochemically stripping a coating from an airfoil includes immersing the airfoil in the electrochemical acid bath for a sufficient period of time to remove the coating from the airfoil while maintaining a controlled absolute electrical potential with respect to a reference electrode or a controlled electrical current density on the airfoil surface.
