Abstract: The invention is an electric reusable paper sheet that uses a pattern o f conductive charge-retaining islands on the outward-facing side of the first of two thin layers used to encapsulate a Electric reusable paper substrate which interac t with conductive areas in the encapsulating sheet. The second encapsulating layer may also coated with a conductive material, or made of a conductive material, and may or may not be patterned. The Electric reusable paper substrate and two encapsulatin g layers comprise a sheet of Gyricon electric reusable paper on which images can be written and erased repeatedly. The patterned charge-retaining islands of the first encapsulating layer receive electric charges from an external charge-transfe r device. After the charge-transfer device is removed, the conductive, charge-retainin g islands hold electric charge, creating an electric field in the electric reusable paper sufficient to cause an image change.

Abstract: A bistable display device that is powered only by ambient energy. Ambient energy is collected by an ambient energy receiver which converts the ambient energy in to an operating signal and provides the operating signal to a controller. The controller drives the display device based on the operating signal. A user can create a custom display by fixing customizable patterned electrodes to the display. A display controller uses a self-starting oscillator. The oscillator outputs a clock input signal wave to a ripple counter and a voltage signal to a voltage doubler. The voltage doubler outputs a stored charge signal to a transformer concurrently with a clock pulse that is output by the ripple counter to change a state of the voltage output from the transformer to conductive electrodes within or on the display. The voltage output from the transformer applies an electric field across the display in the portions of the display covered by the conductors to switch the image on the display. As the display is bistable, if the ambient energy receiver and controller are detached from the display or there is an insufficient amount of ambient energy, the image on t he display will stop switching, but will not fade.

Abstract: A bistable display device (400) that is powered only by ambient energy. Ambient energy is collected by an ambient energy receiver (420) which converts the ambient energy into an operating signal and provides the operating signal to a controller (C). The controller (C) drives the display device based on the operating signal. A user can create a custom display by fixing customizable patterned electrodes to the display. A display controller uses a self-starting oscillator (530). The oscillator (530) outputs a clock input signal wave to a ripple counter (540) and a voltage signal to a voltage doubler (560). Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of improving a gylicon sheet which is one of electric paper. SOLUTION: This invention relates to an electric paper sheet using a pattern of conductive electric charge holding islands 306 mounted on an external side of a 1st plane 302 of a thin layer used for capsulizing a gylicon sheet 300. A 2nd capsule layer 304 can also be coated with a conductive material or made of a conductive material, but does not need to be patterned. The gylicon sheet 300 and two sheets of the capsule layer 302, 304 constitute a sheet of gylicon electric paper on which a picture can repeatedly be written or erased. The electric charge holding islands 306 where the 1st capsule layer 302 has been patterned receives electric charges from an external electric charge moving device. Also after the electric charge moving device is removed, the conductive electric charge holding islands 306 holds the electric charges, and applies an electric field to the gylicon sheet 300 enough to cause a change in the picture.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a home and office document processing system by providing an interactive display device comprising an image display device, an electrical interface for receiving power from a host system in a parasitic manner, and a two-way data communication interface. SOLUTION: In an interactive parasitic display device, a database 310 acts as a repository of document information and is connected to an input/output subsystem 312. Further, the input/output subsystem 312 comprises a display 216, a keyboard 220, a pointer device 222, a handwritten plate 224, a scanner 226, a microphone and speaker 228 and 230, a printer 232, input/output devices 234 and 236, a recognition processing device 238, a processing device 240, and a CPU 212. Input and output to the database 310 are processed according to guidance of a category standard 320. Meanwhile, documentation of data transmitted from the database 310 is instructed by the category standard 320.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form fixed image patterns of a device having both of fixed regions and variable regions by providing the device with the elements of a second set physically fixed to a first stage, which elements of the second set maintain the first stage with respect to any display signals, thereby displaying desired images. SOLUTION: The elements 20 of the fixed regions 100 are first rotated by the conventional method in such a manner that their black surfaces come upward. Next, the selected fixed regions 100 are processed by one of several physical fixing methods. If a variable instruction device is a rotary element type display device, the physical fixation may be executed by applying heat to the elements of the regions to be fixed. As a result, the elements 20 of the fixed regions 100 maintain the black surfaces with respect to any display signals and display the desired images. In the case of, for example, forms, these images include grid lines, headers and labels and the 'name' of the block to be eventually entered by a user of the forms.
