Abstract: A process unit (1) which can be removably mounted in a main assembly (100) of a reproducing machine such as a xerographic copier. The unit comprises a housing (2) enclosing an imaging member (3) and, optionally, other processing means such as a development device (4), a cleaner (5), and a charge corotron (6). The unit also comprises an integral transfer corotron (7) which has one end (21) hingedly mounted on the housing enabling the corotron to be pivoted open for jam clearance. Preferably, the end (22) of the corotron remote from the pivoted end (21) is retained in the unit by a latch (26) which is opened automatically to release the corotron when the unit is inserted into the main assembly. A flexure (49) within the main assembly normally urges the corotron to its operative position when the unit is inserted in the main assembly, but the flexure may be withdrawn so that the corotron pivots open about its hinged end (21) to permit jam clearance. When the unit is withdrawn from the main assembly the corotron is automatically latched back into the unit housing.

Abstract: A replaceable xerographic cassette is coupled to a rotatable driving shaft in a copying machine by a rotary drive coupling member (1) in which a splined drive shaft of the cassette engages as the latter is inserted into the machine. To accommodate angular misalignment of the shafts, the coupling member is of two-part form and the two parts (5, 6) can rotate relative to one another as the shaft is being inserted, to take up any misalignment that may exist.

Abstract: A gearing system for transmitting drive from a first shaft (1) to a second shaft (11), each shaft carrying at its end a gear wheel (2, 12). The gear wheels comprise wheels having radially extending teeth or pegs (7, 17) so shaped and spaced from one another that they mesh when the shafts cross over one another so as to transmit the drive with the gear centres misaligned. Each shaft may carry an auger flight (5, 15), whereby two augers at, say right angles to one another may transmit both material being conveyed and rotational drive around a corner.

Abstract: Apparatus for separating residual toner material from the surface of a reusable photoreceptor (3) in a reproducing machine has a cleaner blade assembly (1) comprising a cleaner blade (5) in a holder (6). The cleaner blade assembly is movable between two positions. In a first position (see Fig. 2) the blade (5) operatively engages the photoreceptor to clean off the residual toner material which is then collected in a generally enclosed chamber (16) below. In the second position (see Fig. 3) the blade assembly is spaced apart from the photoreceptor but covers the entrance to the chamber forming a sealed enclosure for the contents. Thus the toner collecting chamber is sealed by the cleaner blade alone without relying on the photoreceptor to perform a sealing function which makes the apparatus particularly suitable for use in a process cassette comprising at least a photoreceptor and, optionally, other process elements wherein the photoreceptor cannot seal the chamber because it is only loosely retained when the cassette is not in the working position in the machine.
