Abstract: A replaceable cartridge for an image reproduction machine, comprising a container (4) for toner or developer, an aperture (6), a polyethylene sealing strip (8) releasably bonded to the container, over the aperture, to temporarily seal the container, and a fibrous, preferably loop pile nylon, pad (12) which abuts a toner-laden side of the sealing strip so as to clean it as the strip is removed from the container by a user. One side is cleaned of toner (2) as the sealing strip is removed in a direction parallel to the axis of the container (4). The container may comprise an inner container for the toner or developer, and an outer sleeve, the cleaning pad being attached to the outer sleeve in a facing and contacting relationship with the sealing strip. Alternatively, the strip cleaner may comprise a pad or wiper member mounted inside the image reproduction machine.

Abstract: Mechanism designed to centre a travelling web or endless belt along an idler roll around which the web or belt is entrained includes an internal shaft (12) on which the idler roll 2 is mounted for relative rotation, the shaft (12) having a tilt axis which intersects the rotary axis of the roll at or near its centre, Fig 2. When applied to the endless belt of a photocopier, the loosely held belt in a detachable housing is brought into proximity with the cantilevered pair of idler roll 2 and fixed drive roll 4 projecting from the copier; idler roll 2 is biassed by spring 38 to tension the belt; then under the control of photodetectors (not shown), shaft (12) is rotated incrementally by motor 26 to walk the belt along the roll 2. Once its intended position has been reached, the tilt is removed to restore parallelism between the roll axes.

Abstract: A gearing system for transmitting drive from a first shaft (1) to a second shaft (11), each shaft carrying at its end a gear wheel (2, 12). The gear wheels comprise wheels having radially extending teeth or pegs (7, 17) so shaped and spaced from one another that they mesh when the shafts cross over one another so as to transmit the drive with the gear centres misaligned. Each shaft may carry an auger flight (5, 15), whereby two augers at, say right angles to one another may transmit both material being conveyed and rotational drive around a corner.

Abstract: Electrostatographic development apparatus comprises two magnetic brush rolls (41, 42) both adapted to develop an electrostatic latent image on the surface of a photoreceptor drum (1). The developer rolls (41, 42) are mounted one above the other for rotation in opposite senses (54, 55) so as to feed developer material between them towards the photo receptor surface. A third magnetic brush roll (43), which is a transport roll, is mounted above the upper developer roll (41) to carry the developer material upwards away from the upper developer roll, and to release the developer material onto the top of a passive cross-mixer (44) for mixing and recirculation under gravity to the lower developer roll (42).
