    Abstract: The present invention relates to a thermowell blocking apparatus for a high-pressure reactor used in a desulfurization process, which can rapidly prevent noxious high-temperature and high-pressure gases from leaking out of a high-pressure reactor when the noxious high-temperature and high-pressure gases leak from the high-pressure reactor due to unexpected damage occurring to a thermowell used for measuring a reaction temperature of a catalyst. The thermowell blocking apparatus can prevent the economic losses caused by the stoppage of the desulfurization process, and can reduce consequential damages to human life, the environment, and the like.

    Abstract: An adapter for releasably securing a probe to a reaction vessel. Embodiments of the adapter include a cover plate for mating with a reaction vessel, a body portion extending from the cover plate, and a probe gripping portion secured to the body portion. A collet and at least one anvil resides within the body portion/probe gripping portion assembly. The collet has at least one split conical end that may be divided into a plurality of flexible gripping fingers, the conical end of the collet adapted to mate with the at least one anvil. An o-ring is preferably located in the body portion and surrounds a probe when the probe is passed through the adapter. Pressure from the reaction vessel exerts an axial force on the o-ring which, in turn, exerts a like force on the anvil, thereby causing the gripping fingers of the collet to exert a gripping force on the probe.

    Abstract: A closure 10 is provided for retaining fluid pressure within a vessel, and comprises a hub 12 having an access opening to the vessel, with the hub having a circumferential stop 17 and one or more recesses 50 each extending radially outward from an adjacent inner surface 26 of the hub. A door 22 is positioned between the stop surface and the vessel, and a latch member 30 brings the door into sealing engagement with the stop member. One or more lugs 24 each extend radially outward from an exterior surface of the door, which may be tilted from a closed position to an open position then back to the closed position by a pair of cables extending from the door to outside the hub.

    Abstract: Provided is a stirred tank polymerization reactor system having a reactor tank, a stirring assembly including a rotatable shaft that extends through a wall of the tank, and a triple barrier mechanical seal. The mechanical seal includes an outer cylinder mounted in the wall of the tank, an inner cylinder that is rotatable relative to the outer cylinder and connected to the shaft, and first, second, and third fluid barrier seals mounted between the outer and inner cylinders at different positions along the axis of rotation of the inner cylinder. First and second sources of pressurized barrier fluid are connected between the first and second pressure fluid barrier seals and the second and third barrier seals, respectively. The three barrier seals advantageously “step down” the differential pressure experienced by the uppermost barrier seals, substantially reducing mechanical stresses experienced by the annular sealing rings and seats. The mechanical seal can further include a closed loop cooling channel in its outer cylinder that is connected to a circulating source of cooling fluid.
